With the trading away of Fab Melo for a player that is likely to be cut and the opening up of a roster spot, does anybody think there's a chance that Danny offers Chris Wilcox a contract for this season?

As far as I can tell, he's still a free agent.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Is there any reason that he would? I'm curious as to why you think Danny might offer Chris Wilcox a contract for this rebuilding season when it will mean entering the tax.

Because we need a center, and we've just cleared up a roster spot.  He was the only serviceable center I could think of off the top of my head who is still a free agent.

I think Ainge will definitely look at Wilcox as a possibility if Fab is traded. The problem is there's no room for development from Wilcox. He's turning 31 soon and he's not going to be part of any long-term plans. I think it'd be better idea to give a younger player an opportunity.

I'd certainly rather see Danny be able to pull off a move for a legitimate center, but if all else fails, I don't see any reason not to give Chris another go.

If we sign him for a full season, I believe his contract (even if the vet minimum) would push us over the luxury tax again.

I just asked this question in another thread, but why is that such a big deal?

I would rather keep Donte Greene. To have a combo forward rather than another four pretending to be a five. Someone to provide some depth at forward behind G-Wallace and J-Green for those small ball lineups. I think that would offer the team more value than more of the same with what they have already with Sullinger, Humphries, Olynyk and Bass.

Because repeater taxes are looming on the horizon.

They're closer than you think!

The one thing I like about Chris Wilcox is he's one of the best floor runners and finishers in transition for a big man that I've seen.

Maybe that's not enough to want to have him around.  He sure is fun to watch on a fast break, though.

If all you want are fast breaks, then go follow Mike D'antoni from team to team.

It's not all I want, but I do think that the new version of the Boston Celtics will be very well suited to being an uptempo team.

I don't think a grind it out style is going to work anymore given the current personnel, and I'm not a fan of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

I think the style of defense that the Celtics play should determine the tempo of offense that flows from that defense.
