- North Carolina’s homegrown talent is lacking despite its huge college hoops fan base.

- California has the most NBA players overall (336), but per capita it’s average.

- Wyoming took a break from bull-riding long enough to manufacture six NBA players.

- Hawaii gets bragging rights over Alaska by two players to one.

It would be an interesting study to see the relationship between environment and basketball development... i wonder if living in a poor neighborhood and having nothing other than basketball to do would be a reason for elite development as well.

To be fair sometimes "poor" is different than we think. Sometimes we think of poor as inner city (Washington DC. I wouldn't have thought of that). But in many cases poor is Larry Bird out in the middle of a corn field.  Poor might be the middle of the woods in Montana (Phil Jackson) or something.

My state, Rhode Island, with a hair over a million people, one-third of a percent of the US population, had 2 picks, 3.3% of the 2103 NBA draft, second round picks Ricardo Ledo, who should make the Mavs, and Erik Murphy, who might make the Bulls, and if not, should make the league, even if he has to go overseas. (Murphy was born in France when his dad, former BC and NBA big Jay Murphy was playing overseas, but was raised in South Kingstown, RI.)
