Or am just too homer to believe otherwise?

Do you think our current roster could not compete with the other teams?

I still am a believer that something great and surprising (The Celtics overachieving) that even the staunchest pundits would never consider it.

Coach Stevens is a conjurer of great things given the slim odds. And we have the best PG in the league. We also have several underrated players in JGreen, C. Lee, G. Wallace (boy i wish he was back in his true form), A. Bradley; We also have young promising players in Sully and KO.

Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

Depends on who you ask. Truth is nobody really knows but everyone pretends to.

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
In my opinion, they won't suck, but I don't see them as a playoff team, either.

So, basically how the Jazz have been the past three years or so.

It's really hard to answer this question because we just don't know what the opening night roster will look like.

I've got to think so far this team should be viewed as nothing else than incomplete.

We have too many shooting guards and power forwards and not enough point guards and centers.

I think once October gets here and we have a better idea of what the roster will look like, it should be easier to answer this question.

Thanks for telling the truth!  I guess anyone trying to make a reasonable/unreasonable guess is into pretending.  Set those pretenders straight!

We have talent, and I think we'd pretty good if we had a half decent center. Even a Perkins or Joel Anthony (yes..ugh) level center would be a tremendous help to us if we wanted to win games. I've never seen a team that lacked as much size and interior defense as I do with this upcoming 13-14 Celtics roster (trades withstanding of course..).

We are relying on Sully/Olynyk/Melo/Faverani/Bass/Humphries/Wilcox (?) to defend the paint and stop penetration. I don't think any one of those players even specializes in being a tough defender. It's tough seeing us winning a ton of games when it's so easy to see where our defense will absolutely collapse onto itself. Not sure how we can win any more than 33-35 games without some proper interior defense. Like I said if we had a guy like Perkins, I'd actually notch us at around 41+ wins..not to say Perkins himself is even worth 10 wins, but he would stabilize our defense in ways none of our current players can.

Our defense around the perimeter is actually pretty awesome, though, between Rondo, Bradley, Green, Wallace, and Pressey's apparent ability to steal the ball.

Every team looks kinda decent in the offseason. Remember last year we were pumped about Jet and Lee. :P

Honestly, we're not really all that talented. Our defensive anchor and top scorer are gone and let's face it, we weren't all hot last year.

When Jeff Green is your best player? Meh, probably not a very good team

Like it!

I think most people look at it that we have only Green for a scorer and nobody knows what he can do as the first option. At the same time our defense doesn't appear to be that good either. IMO defense has more to do with coaching and effort, scoring takes more skill. Add to that we will be young and the NBA usually eats their young!

i keep thinking back to that Orlando team Doc coached to .500, that team had no business being .500 but they played hard and fought for it, so who knows?

I have no clue how this team is going to score. PP was our only player who could create. Rondo is a distributor, not an alpha scorer. This team will prob average in the 70 pts per game. You're not going to win many games that way..

Agreed. And that's why a center is so important to have. I keep seeing all these proposals with Sully playing the 4 and Humph playing the 5. Problem there is neither Sully, nor Humph, nor Olynyk are centers.

I disagree with just taking a guy out of position and shifting him into another position because that rarely ever works.

Yes, I think it be great to have Perk back (or just any legit center.)

If we also had a true center, I think the likes of Humph, Sully and Olynyk would benefit so much more.

It's not about who can score individually but how we can score as a team. Something Doc failed miserably at implementing last season with the most offensive firepower he's probably ever had.

Between Lee, Bradley, Rondo, Green, Olynyk, Sully, Brooks, and Bass you actually have plenty of offensive talent to work with and an elite PG to help make that process much easier. Our scoring talent/options are no worse than a team like Indiana of last year honestly (they weren't very good either, but they were decent enough). It's our defense that will struggle the most. :/

Seriously? That team has a young superstar on the wing! Not one of those guys you mentioned has averaged more than say 10 pts a game save Green.

I guess it's possible that one will break out and become a 20+ scorer, but I'm not betting on it
