They could have used Bass, especially if they get to the finals against the Heat.  I guess they still could.
They clearly do not want Bass.

Clearly. (and it's not just you)
Bass doesn't fit a run n' gun or outside-inside team.

Well the one good thing is Bass' 17 foot jumpshots could create space for Howard to operate in the paint
Its never good when the PF and C clog up the paint offensively

Parsons can stretch the 4 all the way to the three point line, while being younger and cheaper than Bass.

Parsons can play the 3 n bass the 4 on offense and on defense gaurd the 3. I dont know how someone could say Bass wouldnt be a great fit for the Rockets. Defends and knicks down the midrange jumper with efficiency.

Last year the Rockets made a concerted effort to score at the rim, in the paint, and beyond the arc. Brandon Bass is almost exactly the opposite of the kind of PF they're looking for offensively, and they've got Dwight to play as much defense as they can afford while they push the pace to score in the paint, at the rim, and from beyond the arc.

Check out the shot charts from their playoff series against the Thunder.

I don't think Bass fits into what they were doing last season since his offensive game doesn't extend past that 17 foot jumper and he doesn't operate inside the paint too often, but I think what most people are noting when they say Bass would be a good fit with Houston is that with Dwight in the paint that midrange shot that Bass knocks down so effectively should be open more often. They'd complement fairly well in that respect.

At the same time, Dwight's inside presence also opens up more opportunities for kick out threes, which seems more like the Rockets style and is also out of Bass' repertoire.

If they are planning on continuing their same offensively philosophy as last year then no Bass doesn't fit in, which is probably why they haven't shown any interest. But if they were looking to incorporate a guy who could regularly knock down that midrange jumper in addition to their options behind the arc and in the paint then Bass would be that guy.

With Camby, Houston will have Dwight, Omer Asik, Camby, and Greg Smith, all who appear to be natural centers.  So yes, it seems as though they may look to trade either Asik or Smith.  Smith is listed as non-guaranteed so they could also just cut Smith.

although he's young, Demo stretches the floor out to the 3pt line, more than Bass as a PF, and he's taller and an overall more talented player. They don't need Bass.  They can go with Demo or Parson's at PF, and even go huge with Asik and Howard together at times. Bass adds nothing to their team.

for him, 5 mpg is a solid role. Besides, he's signing with Houston for a ring.

While I disagree, let's pretend he is only going to get 5 minutes per game after all. Let's say Dwight gets 36. That's 41 minutes at the center spot; is Houston seriously going to pay Asik $8.4M next year to play 7 minutes off the bench?

I fully expect to see Dwight and Asik on the floor together for some stretches next season, with Asik taking most of the backup center minutes and Camby a 'break the glass' option off the bench for when Dwight and/or Asik get in foul trouble or hurt, which will happen.

I don't see it as a given that Houston unloads Asik.  Dwight's had a bad back and Camby's how old?  Boston fans should know better than anybody what it's like going into a season with Championship aspirations, but those hopes and dreams being scuttled by a reliance on old, broken down big men (Shaq and JO).

Can't have enough big men.  You're taking a call when there's an inquire about Asik...  but if you're dumping that insurance, you better be getting back more than a marginal improvement to your backup-PF spot (Bass).

I think Wallace would be a better fit for Houston. I don't mind a trade for Asik :)

Bass specializes in taking the kind of shots that the Rockets value the least -- mid-range jumpers.  He really doesn't do much else, especially if he's playing next to a center like Dwight Howard.
