If by the start of the season we have clearly positioned ourselves to tank, will you root for the Celtics to lose games so that we get a better lottery pick?

The reason I ask the question is because Roy started a thread about who are you going to root for when Boston and Brooklyn play each other. My immediate reaction was the Celtics of course, I support the name on the front more than the name on the back. However, having given it some more thought, if we are tanking shouldn't I/we be rooting for Brooklyn?

I think I may be in the minority here, but if we are running out this roster as is (or with only minor tweaks) I'm going to be rooting against us at the end of games. Every single game we lose gives us a better chance at a superstar talent.

Obviously I'll be rooting for our young guys to blossom and play well, just not well enough to win the game at the end of the day.

It feels wrong to say out loud, but it's where I'm at right now. I think my position would be different if Ainge had stockpiled young talent instead of draft picks, but given the moves the front office has made so far I'd rather cheer on a season of futility than hope for a Cinderella story 8th seed playoff team that will get bounced in the first round.

I will always root for the team to win, but if they end up losing I will be less upset since it is for the greater good.

My thoughts exactly

Wouldn't every win work against the greater good though?

I mean if Olynyk is playing like rookie of the year, Sully is looking like he should have been a top 5 pick post surgery, Brooks and Bradley work as a combined 1-2 offensive/defensive punch etc. etc. Sign me up. I'd be rooting for us.

But in a more realistic scenario where we are playing solid basketball, but nothing special and stealing some games here and there, isn't that just wasting the season?

It seems to me like Ainge is setting us up to tank and if that's the case wouldn't winning be counterproductive to whatever rebuild plan he has?

I don't think so, if they are able to win games it means that some of their players are playing well. If our players are playing well it increases their value via trade and helps the long term health of the franchise.

To me the rebuilding plan is to acquire as many assets as we can, presumably it will be because our players are playing well enough to increase their value as assets, if we lose we move further towards creating a great asset in the draft lottery.

As far as wasting the season, I really enjoy watching young players develop through hard work and giving everything they have on the court. To me a wasted season is one in which the players lay down.

I can see this season being like the 06-07 season, in which the first season i fell in love with the celtics.
The gerald green and al jeff team. Lol go figure.

I would love to watch them because the potential we have. But at the end of games I would be torn between seeing them win or lose. I clearly want wiggins or parker.

I see your point. I'm actually probably more excited for this season than I was for last because I enjoy watching young guys develop and seeing their potential etc. It makes the regular season far more exciting for me than watching a team you know is playoff bound.

I don't want to see any guys laying down or trying to lose, I'm just saying that in the last couple minutes of next year's games I'm probably going to be hoping that we end up losing by a couple points.

I'm not a tanking advocate, but I think the Celtics have put themselves in a position where that is the logical/best option right now.

So I guess I should rephrase it to say I'll root for the Celtics for 47 minutes and the other team for the 48th.

I don't think I'd feel the same in any other year, but this draft could be really special.

We don't need to root for them to lose. This young core will fight and learn the hard way how to win games at nba level. No more KG and.PP to guide them, they are on their own now and they will loose plenty of games before they figure it out what it takes to win.
They are lucky RR is still there, they will learn faster with him.
This season will be great!

I want to see them win against Miami, win against Brooklyn, and win against LA (both teams).

Overall, it would be good to see them win or lose.
