But you stil would have the expirings on the books right now, which is the moment you want to sign him, not when the expirings are off the books next year.

Doesn't make sense to trade Rondo and then bring in a lesser talented veteran.  If you move Rondo it is to go into the crapper and build up assets, it isn't to downgrade to a lesser talented player that brings the win total up some.
