  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
For the most part, but Jack was a far superior rebounder.

And I think Kelly has better range.

His game was modeled after Dirk, and I really think that Dirk is the best possible comparison (poor, poor, poor man's dirk).

Edit: His game shares the same strengths and weaknesses as Dirk. Both are very skilled and can handle the ball. They can shoot and are 7 feet tall. They aren't the best defenders, nor are they athletic beasts. They aren't dominant rebounders either.

Josh Shelby = Tim Hardaway

Sorry, thought this was the Grizzlies board from two summers ago when Josh Shelby tore up the summer league.

Yeh, I'm surpised they haven't gotten KO's bust ready for Springfield yet, what is taking so long?!?!?

Yep and if he turns into another Sikma, I'll be happy!

Skill translates way better than athleticism in the NBA.

Olynyk is far more skilled than anybody in the summer league right now.

Jack Sikma whose got the keys to mah bimma?

I'm not sure who you talking about, but if he was decent he must of been from ancient ago.

All i know is Olynyk is like a very good oldschool 80's player that is playing in the modern nba. And opposing players a freaking confused it looks like.

i'm thrilled he's playing well... could not be happier... but people get way too excited for the summer league... we're about an hour away from our first "Can Ambromaitis play with Rondo?" thread....

I would argue that Olynyk's game is far more polished than Dirk's was at this point in his career. Watch oldschool video of Dirk; he is actually even clumsier and slower than Olynyk......and when Kelly has the ball, he's actually pretty [dang] smooth. They just need to get this guy a solid strength and conditioning coach and a nutritionist to beef him up, and get every last improvement on his speed/leaping ability, or he will forever be a one-dimensional big man.

He has horrible lateral footwork on staying with his man, and even worse in guarding off the pick n rolls and in the post. He will be getting posterized often this season. At the same time though, he will be having 10-15 point games on the reg......of course many times in absolute garbage minutes when we are losing by 20+. BUT WHO'S COUNTING???

Dirk came to prominence by destroying everyone in sight at the Nike Hoop Summit at 18yrs old...

Abroad, Nowitzki's progress was noticed. In 1996, FC Barcelona Bàsquet wanted to sign him, but Nowitzki refused to move before finishing his Abitur.[18] A year later, the teenager participated in the Nike "Hoop Heroes Tour," where he played against NBA stars like Charles Barkley and Scottie Pippen. In a 30-minute show match, Nowitzki outplayed Barkley and even dunked on him, causing the latter to exclaim: "The boy is a genius. If he wants to enter the NBA, he can call me."[19] On March 29, 1998, Nowitzki was chosen to play in the Nike Hoop Summit, one of the premier talent watches in U.S. men's basketball. In a match between the U.S. talents and the international talents, Nowitzki scored 33 points on 6-of-12 shooting, 14 rebounds and 3 steals for the internationals[3] and outplayed future US NBA stars Rashard Lewis and Al Harrington. He impressed with a combination of quickness, ball handling, and shooting range, and from that moment a multitude of European and NBA clubs wanted to recruit him.[20]

You can NOT compare KO to a HOFer... this is completely ridiculous

He said a poor, poor man's dirk. As in double poor, which is pretty poor but considering Dirk; still a good basketball player. Nobody here is saying he's as good or going to be as good. Just observing he has some of the same strengths and weaknessess, albeit in varying degrees.

Yet he was only picked 4 slots higher than Olynyk was...

Nobody is saying that Olynyk is going to have a Dirk-like career.

People are saying that they have a similar game, which is true on all accounts. They're so freaking similar - even their weaknesses are the same!!!

There is much room for discussion, as we don't even know what kind of career Olynyk will have. What were people thinking before Dirk went into the NBA? There was hype. What's wrong with a little hype for Olynyk?

Some of his skills reminds me of Larry at times.   Granted, I know he is not as good as Larry or will be as good but the shot fakes and the like remind me of Larry.
