In a weird way, it's fun having threads like this again. It really takes me back to the late 1990s when I first started really getting into the Celtics. Getting too invested in our draft picks is like putting on a snug old pair of jeans that fit like they used to. Hopefully it's only a short stay at the bottom, but it's fun watching guys develop, too.
In a lot of ways, following prospects, watching them develop and the "hope" for the future is as entertaining as watching a playoff team.
I had a lot of fun watching Big Al develop. When Big Al was finally dropping 16/10 a night, that was exciting. How good will he get!??!
Same with Rondo over the past few years until he finally peaked. Very exciting watching him improve. That's one thing that's been lacking on this team the last few years... high quality prospects with star potential. Guys like Bradley and even Sully seem to have really low ceilings. KO is intriguing, though. He could end up being worse than Adam Morrison, but he's an intriguing prospect.
You really think that Sully has a low ceiling and that Rondo has peaked?
I just don't see that.
I feel that Sully might have a much higher ceiling than Olynyk based solely on what he has already done against NBA competition at 20 years old versus what Olynyk was doing at 20 years old versus college competition.
I gotta be honest, I don't have a great read on Sully. He didn't play enough. I was under the impression his ceiling was "poor man's Carlos Boozer" and his back issues will probably be a long-term problem with him. He was also kind of horrible during SUmmer league last year... shot 30%. So I thought he was some unathletic slow, slightly undersized stiff who fell to #21 for a reason. But apparently he can pull down boards and wasn't a complete abomination on the defensive end. I still don't see the "star" potential with him. Rich man's Glen Davis? Brandon Bass-esque? I don't know. We'll see what happens.
Yes, Rondo has peaked. You've seen the best basketball of his career already.
Bradley is one-dimensional. Too offensively inept to run point. Too small to play SG long-term. If he keeps playing hyper-aggressive defense, he'll probably have a career ... I see him as a long-term backup, honestly. I've already mentioned that I could see Bradley filling the Derrick Fisher role for a great team.. just someone who is "point guard by default" on a team where the ball flows through the stars... and mostly just has to play tough defense and knock down a few shots.
Oly looks like he can score from anywhere and is an above-average passer, but his lack of explosiveness and his lack of defensive ability will probably be an issue. We'll see how he does against elite NBA athletes. Summerleague is summerleague. But his skillset intrigues me. What if he could work on that body, pack on some weight and become a passable defender?... could be a player. But I wouldn't put money on it. Scal has a nice skillset too.
