Doc on Celtics fans: "I'm still loyal to them and I still hope they're loyal to me."

@kristineleahy Doc told me he & Rondo exchanged texts. Said they had rough times but was never anything that "stayed." Not happy w report

Doc: I did not leave because I did not want to coach Rondo. That's silly.

Doc: I just felt it was time to move.

Doc: "I called Danny [Sunday], said I'm staying... let’s move forward. Then 2 hours later, he said, 'No, you’re not staying, you’re going.'"

Doc: "It was not like I was leaving somewhere. I enjoyed where I was at."

Doc: "On Sunday Danny and I were talking about our roster. On Sunday night, this deal had been completed. That's how volatile this has been"

Doc: "Quite honestly, at this point in my life, that’s the only reason I’m coaching, is to try to win titles."

Teleconference (Per Twitter)
Former #Celtics coach Doc Rivers: I never told Danny if Kevin or Paul weren't back I wouldn't come back ... this wasn't about Rondo.

Rivers: "Rondo and I, our relationship has really grown." #celtics #clippers

Doc to Boston media: I never went into Danny's office and said I wanted to leave.

Doc on Celtics players: "I didn't think they had tuned me out, but I think it could be time for that. That was a concern."

Doc says he didn't know this job opportunity was even possible until Ainge made him aware that it was a possible option for him to consider.

Doc: "In my mind, right after [Game 6 vs. Knicks], I was probably going to take a break. I didn't think leaving was in the cards."

Celtics owner Steve Pagliuca to Doc: "I'd love for you to stay, but if we can get a pick, that's good for all of us. Doc: "I agree."

"The biggest surprise for me in Boston not that the Celtics turned out to be a good team. I fell in love with the city." - Doc Rivers

Doc: This is not a one-trick pony deal where I was the only one fueling this. I never pushed this deal. It happened.

Former #Celtics coach Doc Rivers: Danny Ainge went out and made a statement that I was returning to coach, and I never said that.

Doc said he doesn't remember a letter from the #celtics saying they expect him to fulfill his contract

gary washburn ‏@GwashNBAGlobe 52m
Two things that pulled Doc to LA: Being VP of Basketball Operations and opp to coach Kevin Garnett. Obviously he wanted KG with #clippers

Doc on KG: I think he'll play this year for sure. I don't know that, but that's my gut.

Doc: "When this whole thing started, it looked like I would still coach at least 1, maybe 2 guys (KG, Pierce), so that's going to be tough.

Doc told the #celtics he would come back but it would have to be a on a year-to-year basis and the #celtics signed off on the deal

To sum it up there's a difference in how the events occurred (as expected).

Loyal, LOL.

But I'm not bitter, that's the way of the NBA today.

I'll wish him well, but I hope the Clippers lose to the Celtics every time they play, that CP3 leaves for Houston/Dallas, and his team is so bad the C's get a good lottery pick in 2015. Other than that, I wish Doc well.  ;D

This is a big alarm for Wyc. When GM is trying to fool  around the coach. Every normal ownership has to fire GM. Sorry but is intolerable

Leaning Ainge on this.

Doc's comments just don't all add up.  He tries to say he wasn't pushing for the Clips but he has a bigger role there, plus knew he had a shot at KG and all.  He says he wants rings too.

Still the most telling thing was Ainge saying he thought he sold Doc on rebuilding but maybe Doc just sold him on acting like he was in for rebuilding.

The rest is noise. Everyone is keeping it nice and classy and that's good enough for me. I'll be rooting for Doc to beat the Lakers next year, no question.

This doesn't add up.  Doc liked the situation on the Clippers.  I don't buy that he was blindsided at all.  Maybe he was in the sense that he thought it was dead, but he still wanted to go.

Are we glossing over where he said at this point he just wants shots at titles?

Ainge's story adds up, Doc's doesn't.

Exactly. Doc is just trying to save face.

Wyc wanted Doc back.  Ainge wanted Doc back.  So did KG, Pierce, and I bet Rondo did too.

Doc didn't want to be back, and that's that.  It's silly to pin this on Ainge.

He obviously wants no part of a rebuild.  He wants to win now, wants to play for something, & wants to improve his win/loss total.

I hope Chris Paul bounces on the entire franchise, takes Howard with him, & helps McHale win something in Houston.

I think Doc was planning on coaching and getting paid 7 million this year no matter what. He just prefered to do it for the Clippers and once that was made public Wyc was happy to send him on his way if the C's got something out of it.
