Danny didn't want Doc to go obviously. He sounded real frustrated and disappointed because Doc wasn't even really sure what his intentions were after the season. They gave him the top coaching contract in the league 2 years ago, yet Doc wanted no part of the plan now.
This was Doc's decision to leave the organization.
Danny did well to get at least a future unprotected first round pick with the situation he was dealt. I applaud him for that. He made the most out of it.
JMHO but I think that's all spin. I think Ainge had this up his sleave the whole time.
1- his rebuild plan included turning Doc into an on-court asset, only way that works is if Doc's under a long term contract when the rebuild starts.
2- Doc wins because IF danny's plan works, he still gets the big contract
3- Celts get a 20 yr old stud in exchange for a 50 yr old combo guard; shed expensive admin salary in process.
