Doesn't Doc leaving mean we are not rolling it back?

It seems to me the fact that Danny let Doc go to the Clippers means we are starting the rebuild now.  If Danny had told Doc he is keeping Pierce and giving it one more run wouldn't Doc have stayed? To me no way Doc takes the Clippers job if Danny said that.  That seems to mean this is decided and we will have a very different team this year and there is no chance of rolling it back.

I think the firesale is on.   I look for PP to be a Cav by the 28th.  It's going to stink in many ways but that trade exception is too good.

Doc is only a coach. There is lots of coaching talent available right now. He is easily replaceable.

I would say it's likely they are not rolling it back but nothing is a done deal until the talent is traded. Garnett. Pierce. Maybe Rondo. Green. These are the guys that win Boston games. Not Doc. Another coach can get just as much out of them.

what does rolling it back mean? Doc is gone, we're not rolling anything back. KG wont play for anyone but doc. Its very widely documented that doc did not want to go through this year rebuilding. and you still think rolling it back was ever an option?

Yes, we are rolling it back. Rolling it back to the time before the KG trade.

On the other hand, we are not running it back.

I do think we'll miss Doc Rivers, a good coach who was excellent at managing egos, and who players seemed to genuinely enjoy playing for.  The latter part was nice when trying to pick up free agents on veteran-min/MLE/LLE deals, where the dollars are basically the same. 

Figure a guy like Jason Terry, we all regret the signing but at the time he probably could have gotten the same $$ from a several other teams but chose to come here - playing for Doc Rivers helps in that regard.  But, we're not likely to be major players in free agency anytime soon, so it's less of a concern that Doc is elsewhere. 

What I'm scared to death of, though?...  the prospect of Rondo having to adjust to playing for a new coach.

How many "worst losing streaks in team history" has Scott Skiles be a part of?

Which is how many titles Doc has without KG, Paul and Ray.  Has Skiles ever had that kind of talent to work with?

Of course, Skiles may never get to coach those kind of guys because teams with lots of talent rarely go with a hard-charger like Skiles.  My point is that "players love to play for Doc" is about the most overused and overvalued argument you can make.  Players also love to play for George Karl.  The guys in Memphis sure seemed to love playing for Lionel Hollins.  The vast majority of coaches are perfectly capable of establishing and maintaining good relationships with players, so people should stop holding that up as some sort of unique super-power possessed by Doc and Doc alone.

I think Doc is a good coach and a great leader who's going to have trouble doing any better than Del Negro did in LA and I worry that his time in Boston has left him a little too set in his ways.

Three things against Doc that he has to overcome

-Extremely stubborn
-Doesn't instill discipline
-Only wins with very talented players. Like a modern day Phil Jackson

I wasn't talking about Doc's talent.  I thought Danny had a meeting with Doc.  My piont was if he told Doc he was bringing the the team back for one last try  I think Doc would have stayed with the Celtics.
