I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but does anyone see the Clippers trade talk dating back to the trade deadline as the C's attempting to do a favor for KG and Pierce; sending them home to go for one last championship?  We all know Paul is from LA and would never play for the Lakers; and KG lives in Malibu.  With the supposedly close relationship between the two, KG may have convinced Doc to join the party too.

We've heard Pierce rumors the past two years heading to situations worse than here.  Out of respect to the player I don't think the organization would want to pull the trigger on that type of deal.  The LA scenario would be the ideal situation assuming the players don't want to retire just yet.

This is not unreasonable.  There is a report that states Danny came to Doc with this trade.

they're offering nothing to the c's now, what makes you think they are going to at the deadline, for only half a season of PP and KG?

Screw the clippers

I don't think the OP was suggesting that the trade will be made at the trade deadline. I think OP mentioned that the talks date back to the last trade deadline.

I don't see it so much as purely a favor, but more like a destination that is realistic.  KG has the no-trade clause which he has to be convinced to waive.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
It may seem like a favor to Pierce, but I am not so sure he wouldn't rather collect his full salary this year with a team like the Cavs and then explore his options next year. He would be leaving a lot of money on the table just to join a team with a slim opportunity of winning it all.

Sure, if he gets bought out by the Celtics or a team wanting to shed salary, then it would make sense for him to join up with the Clips, but don't be so sure that it's a favor to Pierce.

Has Pierce ever said that he would never play for the Lakers? Or is that a CelticsBlog hunch? ;D

He is from LA, and grew up a Laker fan.   I could not find a direct quote.

I remember his body language that night and he was less than thrilled.   But the man has been the most professional player we have had in decades.
