I have absolutely no idea how they're going to use this guy.  Goalline/short yardage is my inclination but who knows.
Who knows if he'll make it out of camp.

Maybe they think they can convert him into a TE or something especially with Gronk being a huge question mark entering the season. He is versatile. Either that or they see potential being mentored by Brady

If he makes the first squad, I'd imagine they'd have him line up as a TE or in the back field.

On the other hand, they did release their third-string QB to make the move, so maybe I'm completely off and they want to give him a look at the practice squad?

Not sure that means all that much.

Patriots are famous for just wanting 'football players'.

Man, Rotoworld is fast.

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5096/tim-tebow

There is, however, an interesting tidbit there:

Quote
There are conflicting reports about Tim Tebow's position in New England.
Reported ESPN's Ed Werder on SportsCenter, "I have confirmed that the Patriots signed him with the intent of playing quarterback." Meanwhile, CBS Sports' Mike Freeman reported Tebow will "study a great deal at tight end." The Patriots' upcoming mandatory minicamp will not be open to the media. Don't expect Josh McDaniels or Bill Belichick to specify Tebow's position, even when pressed. We may have to wait for preseason games to have a good idea. Jun 10 - 5:35 PM

On the other hand, the tidbit is based on an article that identifies NE's backup QB as "Josh Mallett"...

Signing with a team and making a team are two different things.

I doubt he sticks as a QB given the Pats already have established starting and back up QBs.

Smart signing.  The kid can play, even if he isn't a starting QB.

Step 1 - Sign Tim Tebow

Step 2 - Sell boatloads of jerseys and merchandise

Step 3 - Release Tim Tebow

Trick plays, Wildcat Offense ... that's all I can imagfine them using him for, (plus Bill loves "impossible" projects, as he's known elsewhere). Should be interesting to see what transpires.

Love this move by the Patriots.

Reports say he is signed as a QB, which I think is probably true, but at the same time I expect him to be spending up to half of his time working out at other positions.

Whether it be tight end, fullback, halfback, special teams, wildcat or whatever there are plenty of possibilities to get Tebow on the field in a capacity that can help the team. Bill just needs to figure out where he could fit best.

I don't expect Brady to be coming off the field at ANY point for Tebow and I'm sure they were upfront with Tebow about that. So I think he is going to be willing to work out at different spots so he can make the 53 man roster and see the field, while also working on his QB craft and learning as much as he can behind Brady.

My ideal end to this situation is Tebow comes in and keeps his head down, doesn't cause any problems, plays great in the preseason and then at some point down the line Bill flips him to a desperate team for a draft pick.
