I thought it was an interesting piece, and I thought the Lakers' fan made some decent points.

My rebuttal to him would be that it's all fine and good to poke fun at the eccentricities of Celtics fans, but to keep in mind that, as far as I can tell, there is no such thing as a true Lakers fan.  Anyone who calls himself a Lakers fan is generally a bandwagon fan by definition.

Of course, the few diehard "Laker" fans that exist out there (there must be one or two, although I've never actually met any) are surely living as much in the past as Celtics fans.

If they don't have some eye on the past, and are only Lakers fans until Kobe retires, they can't really be called anything but bandwagon fans, can they?

Luckily for them, they can always follow the Clippers during the lean years that are ahead, and as LA sports fans, they can have a completely clean conscience about it.

There is a reason he is writing for yahoo.  Jealously is such an ugly emotion folks.   It drives pettiness like this article.

People do not understand our history because so few teams have that rich background and tradition.  They will never get it, folks.

We would say the same thing if the roles were reversed. what's not true about it? Just don't pay attention to it

My uncle is a true Lakers fan (born in 60's, going to the Forum with my grandpa and my dad like every weekend), and the one thing that I think differentiates him from any other Laker fan I've met (I grew up in California, near LA) is that he HATES the Celtics.

I have friends around my age who are Laker fans and they're like, "Yeah, I'm a big Rondo guy.  I love that dude."  Whenever I ask my uncle about Celtics players, he'll refuse to compliment them.  He just doesn't have anything nice to say about them after watching them whoop his team's butt during his childhood.

This very topic was discussed in that 'Top 10 Least Favorite Teams' thread; the hatred between the Celtics and the Lakers is generational.  Most young kids who have only seen the past two NBA Finals between Boston and LA aren't going to have the same passion and hatred as people who've seen five or six of those matchups in the postseason.

Quick story: my uncle told me this great story about my grandpa.  One time, when they were driving to the Forum, they arrived at the same time as Jack Nicholson.  My grandpa knew that there was a parking spot that Nicholson's limo always took, so he veered right in front of Jack's car, and parked in the spot.  When my grandpa got out of the car, he gave Jack a kind of troll face, and Jack shook his hand and laughed.  I thought that was just awesome.

Well, I hate few teams and specially Miami and Lakers because of the attitude of those teams, not because of historical rivalry or jealousy. The body language of the players, the inappropriate big ego (Lebron stare and look down over Terry), the fake (Pau Gasol screams like you are breaking his leg anytime someone approach too near), etc... all those things makes me sick and therefore hate their respective teams. It's funny how similar kind of players attract each other. Lakers whine, Miami flop... and celtics fight.
The guy can write anything he wants, I know where I stand.
Proud of being a celtics fan!

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I stopped when I read in your quote that the Lakers are the most dominant.

Clearly this guy does not know what he's talking about, therefore not even going to bother reading anything he writes.

I didn't read it, but have read Yahoo articles in the past, and have come to the conclusion that Yahoo should leave reporting and commenting up to the professionals, or the blogs.   ;)  Anyway, I don't even bother reading Yahoo news or sports...
