why do many here believe that we need Doc to attract free agents?

Imagine if Popovich took time off every offseason to evaluate if he was going to honor his coaching contract?

So at the worst SA will go back home with a split and  if they take two at home they will return to Miami needing just one of two for the chip. My money is on SA.

Miami has the best player in the NBA, SA has the best coach by far. The gap between Pop and Spoelstra is wider than the gap between LeBron and Tony Parker. Advantage Spurs.

I do not see Miami winning any game, they might of course, but I just don't see how or where they should beat this Spurs team.

Today was Miami's game to steal against a team that was obviously rusty, but Pop had a great game plan. He let the Heat run themselves into the ground in the first half and he made sure his man Parker had fresh legs going into the fourth.

They don't have income tax in Texas.

So, uh, yes. It is a better FA destination in that way.

Hm, that situation sounds pretty familiar to 2010 when the C's were up against the best player in the world (Kobe) and the best coach in the world (Phil) and were only a few minutes away from winning the championship. If only the C's could hire someone like that who could successfully coach in the playoffs...oh wait.

Also, I'm not sure how the title of the thread relates at all to the OP's post...?

I'd rather play for Pop. :-\
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Yes.

Lower taxes, better weather, lower cost of living.

The best GM in the game and the best coach, as well.

Come on. Everyone knows Texas is not a big football state, at any level (HS, college, pro). They really hate football down there.

The best GM in the game and the best coach, as well.

This, although as soon as Pop and Duncan retire (presumably at the same time), that advantage kind of goes out the window.

You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

  • Be the posts you wish to see in the world.
For now it is, though a lot of that goes away when this era ends.

It's worth noting that SA is one of the least likely teams to overpay a player, which can be a negative from a player's perspective.

No income tax and a man named Tim Duncan who is 4 and 0 in his finals appearances has a lot to do with appeal. Also Pop.
