this team healthy has chances as good as any other team

personally, i'm not ready to say goodbye to Paul, KG and Doc...

Yeah, health gets us pretty much every year. While I dont believe we get back in title contention pretty much any way in the next season without some amazing trade to bail us out, I doubt it happens, but Ainge seems a bit more likely to pull the trigger this offseason. Otherwise, it feels like the best chance to make a decent run would be to run it back and hope everyone remains healthy, which that doesnt seem likely either. Im still down with 1 more year and seeing what happens but I hope we get.some legitimate help this year.

We have seemed progressively worse each year to me.   I love these guys too but I would rather get something for them if we can rather than letting them walk in the sunset and being horrible with nothing in the cupboard.

As much as I would love for KG and Pierce to retire in green, I hate the idea of wasting another year of Rondo's prime running an offense designed around getting KG and Pierce shots.  And if those two and Doc are back, I don't see how anything else would be possible.

i said we bring them back, but our style of play must change a bit, it has to with rondo and green(especially). Green has a potential to be a top 10 scorer in the NBA next year, i predict for his game to look alike Paul George's this year.
Pierce could play spot up shooter-free throw type of a role, and Garnett just has to defend like he always does...
just imagine if Terry and Bradley turn up their game a little bit...

I agree for the most part let's run it back for a few reasons.

For a near retirement of Pierce and KG how much are you really going to get back in return.  it might be just middling talent with bloated contracts.  With each passing day I would think their trade value drops.  I might be too sentimental here but I'd prefer to have them retire in green, and have Ainge continue to rebuild on the fly as he has been.

It's not the right time to trade our young assets.  What was the old Red saying something about making a trade when a guys value is up, not down.   Rondo and Sully are coming off of major surgeries.   I want to see Green build on what he did the second half of season into the playoffs.  Maybe start him at SF, and have Pierce as the 6th man ala Ginobli to conserve his minutes.  This will be the first off season for Bradley that he doesn't have to worry about rehabbing, and can really work on his game.  He is only 22.  Maybe revisit midseason but I'd like to hold onto all these players for now.

Bass, Lee, and Terry their contracts are mostly dead weight right now.  Maybe by some miracle we trade 1 or 2 of these guys with a draft pick, Melo, a couple non guaranteed contracts in a sign and trade for someone like Josh Smith or Al Jefferson.   If we are lucky enough to do that then great but I'm not counting on it.  I'm hoping Lee has a solid bounce back season, and Bass can continue his good play towards the end of the season.  Both are only 26.

So I hope we keep the first 6 players I mentioned for the reasons I laid out.   As a result I don't think anything really big will happen.   I'm fine with that as long as we continue to slowly build our young assets and Ainge nails it again this draft, then maybe within a year or 2 the timing will be right for a blockbuster trade.

If the C's can land Milsap,Big Al or Smith by only giving up a combo of Bass,Lee,Crawford,Williams,White,Melo,the 16th pick and if had to Bradley Im all for it. Then bring in some one like Kover that can open up the floor with his shooting and a vet PG to spell Rondo some time. Might have to give up next years first round, but protected top 12, which I know people aren't excited about, but if landed one of these guys we shouldn't be in the lottery and would be getting a guy who plays now not in 2 or three years.

BUT, if they can't pull it of I say fire sale! Have to. Depending on the trade could save 3 to 5 years of rebuilding.

A 'Perfect Storm' miracle is now our best chance.  Either the miracle comes via a series of lobsided trades, or the miracle happens through shocking improvement from our current roster. 

Both angles reflect wishful thinking, but improvement from our current roster has a slightly larget sliver of hope than through trade swindles.  Here's the unlikely miracle:

1) AB returns a sprightly and reasonably experienced 22 year old -- his body becomes more acclimated to itself and with new body comfort comes a new deadly 3-pointer and tireless muscles and tendons.  He returns to all-NBA defense form and no longer has any worries about having to handle the ball.

2) Sully returns a rebuilt phenom.  No more back problems, just all-out smart rebounding and inside play.  He becomes the Al Jefferson/Leon Powe lovechild by showing relentless pursuit on the boards along with finesse moves inside and a soft 10-12 footer.

3) Jeff Green is unleashed.  He finds his inner-leader and with that he shows something neither we nor he ever knew he had.  No longer hampered by fatigue or worries about his recovery, Green becomes a nightly scoring threat from anywhere on the court.  He takes what opponents give him on any given night, capitalizing on whatever part of his game is offered by the defense.  And defensively he steps up, wearing down opposing scorers with tireless on-man intensity.

4) Rondo, Pierce and KG throw their collective hearts into 1 more ring.  Pierce finds a valued role behind Green, giving the C's the deadly scoring puncher and lift off the bench.  KG impacts every game in 25 MPG preparing to extend his time once in the playoffs for 1 last run.   Rondo takes control of this team doing what needs to be done each night, whether feeding, boarding or scoring. His off-season rehab work benefits his shot by increasing his FTs to 75% and developing a reliable go-to 3-pt shot in the mid-30's. 

The miracles above along with a couple new additions and improved play by our current reserves lead us to one more real chance with this team.



Oh, did I mention Fab gives us 10 and 5?

If we're heading to Crazy Town anyways, can we pick up Greg Oden on the way there?

5) Greg Oden signs with Boston and proves why he was a better prospect than Kevin Durant by staying healthy and averaging 17 points, 13 rebounds, 3.4 blocks on 60% shooting/77% from the line (his actual per 36 minute averages in 2010)
