Idea: PP to Houston

Houston seems to have really picked up their efforts for Dwight. Would they entertain PP for J. Lin, O. Asik & possibly a 1st? The Rockets would definitely release Pierce & get an insane amount of cap space to target CP3 & Howard. Lin & Asik are both young and decent, considering we would only be asking Lin to play the backup PG, and Asik is a defensive beast. Their contracts suck when they jump to $14M, but they'll both be $14M expiring contracts in a deep 2015 free agency, and also end in sync with Rondo, KG (doubt we would have him on our team if we trade PP), Bass, Terry & Green has a player option.



(Side Note: This trade also screws the Lakers, Kevin McHale did us a favor, it's Danny's turn to repay him  :) )

Can someone explain to me how Lin and Asik's contracts work? Would we owe them each $15 next year?

Both Lin and Asik make a bit over $8m per season.  The contract total was divided evenly between years.  Had the contracts been matched by their former teams, their total dollars would have been the same, but it would have been distributed differently.

On hoopshype it says they are both due to make $5 MM next year then $15 MM in the final year.

Hoops hype has it right, but its not applicable in this context. Their cap hits for teams that acquire the players via trade is the same for Houston; spread out. I'm not sure how that translates into actual dollars paid out to the players, but capsize that's how it breaks down.

If we were able to trade Piercd for Lin, Asik, and a first, that'd be highway robbery for us.

Here is a trade you have to wonder if it would work:

Pierce+Shav+T-Will+White (all unguaranteed, roughly 18.3 million), Bradley
For
Asik, Lin, Royce White, Terrance Jones, 2013 first

If I were Houston I wouldn't want to stunt Parsons' growth. He's only 24 and was one of the most improved players in the league last year.

Not to mention that their numbers don't show much of a disparity. Parsons averaged 15.5 ppg, 5.3 rpg, and 3.5 apg on a stellar 48.6% from the field and 38.5% from 3's. Pierce averaged 18.6 ppg, 6.3 rpg, and 4.8 apg on 43.6% from the field and 38% from 3's.
