You my good sir have quietly built an amazingly well rounded team though i have to ask why Rambis 85-86 when he had a way better season 88-89.

Really like your team.

So I think I have everyone's set rosters and years except wdleehi.

Now I have a few of his years from when we had a discussion on his team, so I am going to post those for now pending wd's post with his roster.

Kansas City Kings
COACH: Lenny Wilkens
PG: Magic Johnson (86-87)/ Gerald Henderson (83-84)
SG: Andrew Toney (82-83)/ Fred Brown (77-78)/ Clint Richardson (82-83)
SF: Bernard King (83-84)/ Bob Gross (76-77)
PF: Larry Nance (83-84)/ Cedric Maxwell (80-81)
C: Jack Sikma (78-79)/ Marvin Webster (77-78)/ Alvan Adams (75-76)

This team is one of the best teams in this draft. It has that transcendent superstar you want to see in a team in this format. It has a once in a generation scorer in Bernard King. it has toughness and size up front in Sikma, Webster, Nance and Maxwell, and it has a deadly 3rd option on offense in Toney. This offense, run by an older, smarter. more mature and better shooting Magic will be dynamic.

King in the low post, especially in his 83-84 form is unstoppable. I say is because I don't think, even to this day, there is a defender that could stop King if given the ball in his spot. His instant jump, height of jump, length and how quickly he could do it upon getting the ball is possibly unmatched in NBA history.

I like the Fred Brown addition and although there is little statistical proof of his three point ability, those that saw him play know, he might be one of the most dangerous long distance shooters in history. In a league where there was no three point line, Fred Brown jacked and hit from way downtown.

There's lots of championship experience and some massively under rated talent up front. I just do not understand how Jack Sikma is not in the Hall of Fame. And Magic to Nance on the break will be a scary sight to see.

All that said, I wasn't crazy about some of the end of the draft picks. I think Kansas City could have done a lot better than Bob Gross and Gerald Henderson and given that they are the only subs for King and Magic, that's not great. Still, that is minor but could be enough to push another team ahead of KC in a category or three.

macig, nance and sigma makes me like this team and consider them dangerous... a lot

Not seeing the Lakers as the best team.  Far too limited offensively though they are a great defensive team.

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson

Are we using this thread for out Team Rosters? If not, I apologize in advance for placing my write-up here.

SEATTLE SUPERSONICS

PG: Maurice Cheeks(82-83)/Lionel Hollins(77-78)

SG: Eddie Johnson(79-80)/Ricky Pierce(86-87)/Trent Tucker(88-89)

SF: Adrian Dantley(83-84)/Greg Ballard(81-82)/Ricky Pierce(86-87)

PF: Buck Williams(84-85/Caldwell Jones(80-81)/Danny Schayes(87-88)

C: Bill Walton(76-77)/James Edwards(80-81)/Danny Schayes(87-88)

List of TOTAL Achievements/Awards/Honors. Many of the players I chose have multiple awards/honors/achievements throughout their careers, but I will choose what they did for the year I selected only.

C - Bill Walton - 1976-77 NBA Championship with Portland TrailBlazers
1976-77 NBA All-Defensive (1st)
1976-77 NBA All-NBA (2nd)
1976-77 NBA Finals MVP
Finished 2nd in the NBA in MVP voting in 76-77

For 76-77, played 34.8 min in reg season, averaging 18.6 pts, 14.4 rebs, 3.8 asissts, 1 stl, and 3.2 blocks. Walton upped his averages for the playoffs to 15.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.1 steals, 3.4 blocks, while maintaining his pts avg around 18.2.

One of the best, All-Around Skilled Big Men to ever play the game, a winner when he was healthy (76-77, 85-86 BOS).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFrRnWEt3Z4

That vid could be viewed as a "Celtics" Vid, but what did the announcer say around the 1:24 mark of the video?

"The best Passing Center the game has ever known."

Bill Walton would LOVE playing with this frontline in THIS format, as well as his bigs supporting him off the bench. They would get many easy looks from Bill Walton, and we could and will easily run the offense through Bill, Maurice, Eddie and AD in this starting lineup.

PF - Buck Williams:

He won multiple Defensive Team awards throughout his career as well as a 2nd Team All-NBA team selection in 82-83, but I chose his 84-85 season where he put up perhaps his best overall statistics as a player while toiling in NJ:

18.2 pts, 12.3 rebs, 2 assists, .8 stls, 1.3 blocks. I think those stats, as well as the fact that he upped his points totals in the playoffs that year to 21.7 can best help THIS SEA team in THIS format.

Buck was known as a tough, rugged, skilled player that could put the ball in the hoop and mix it up down low with little reservation. Buck Williams would LOVE playing with unselfish and talented Bill Walton up front.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppHeQs-a19o

Adrian Dantley (AD) - I chose his 83-84 season where he put up 30.6 points, 5.7 rebs, and 3.9 assists, while posting a WHOPPING .235 win shares for his team that year. He also upped his averages in the playoffs that year to 32.2 pts, 7.5 rebs, 4.2 assists, and nearly a steal per game.

Make no mistake about it, Adrian Dantley would and WILL score in THIS format. Even vs the best defenders in this format, his passing skills would just give other players (Bill, Buck, Mo, Eddie, etc) other opportunities. Man could score on the block, could shoot from just about anywhere on the floor and had a toughness about him, too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdO_3iW5QAA

Eddie Johnson - was fortunate to find him at SG later on in this draft, and was thankful for it. For the year I chose (79-80), he was an All-Star, 2nd Team Defensive awardee, posted a .150 WS, and averaged 33.2 min, 18.5 pts, 2.5 rebs, 4.7 assists, and 1.5 steals, while shooting a dangerous .385 from DEEP.

Eddie also upped his averages in the playoffs for ATL that year, putting up 19.4 pts, 3.6 rebs, 4.2 assists, and 1.6 steals.

Maurice "Mo" Cheeks...unflappable, steady, sneakingly athletic, intelligent Floor General for my Seattle Supersonics Historical Draft Team. I chose his Championship year 82-83 in THIS format.

Mo averaged 12.5 pts, 6.9 assists, 2.6 rebs, and a whopping 2.3 steals in under 32 min as starting PG, while posting a .150 WS. He ALSO upped his averages in the post-season that year, averaging 16.3 pts, 7 assists, and 3 rebounds per game.

A classy, quiet player, Mo would have no issues with this team and he fits.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXxCUCdO3tw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhxanhF2_ks

Thanks for yet ANOTHER ASSIST, Mo. Walton, Buck, AD and Co will LOVE you on this team.

Our bench is one of, if not the BEST benches in this format, IMO. Headlined by players such as NOW NBA Coach of MEM, Lionel Hollins:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=933qPG4gOfQ

A smart, tough, defensive-minded PG. Lionel averaged 15.9 pts, 3.4 rebs, 4.7 assists, 1.9 steals during regular season, and upped his averages to 16.7 pts, 5.5 assists and 4.8 rebs in the post-season.

Our team in this format won't have ANY problems in dropoff in production with Coach I mean  :) Lionel Hollins on the floor subbing for Mo Cheeks.

Ricky Pierce - 2-Time 6th Man of the Year Awardee...offense and toughness off the bench. He can play both wing spots and could score with the best:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NeKOyjP7e8

Trent Tucker, with is outside shooting and 3 pt percentage, will give us another scoring option off the bench and will help spread the floor a bit for us. He shot .399 for the year I selected (88-98).

Caldwell Jones - his 1st Team Defensive Award, 1.7 blocks, and 10 rebs per game in 80-81 will give us more options defensively in this format and his length and athleticism will cause opponents problems as well.

James Edwards and Danny Schayes will round out our Bigs. Both can provide offense off the bench, toughness and intelligence. Danny Schayes will help spread the floor a bit with his outside shooting.

James Edwards, for the year I selected (80-81), averaged 15.6 pts, 7 rebs, 2.6 assists and 1.6 blocks in 29 min.

Danny Schayes averaged 14 pts, 8 rebs, 1.3 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game, while providing a spread the floor option with his outside shooting.

A very-well rounded team, providing offense, defense, toughness and experience in this format. I believe, though, that my team was unfairly slighted a bit earlier in the draft when I selected Bill Walton, but I would do the same thing again if I had to.

Bill Walton was simply the best Big after Kareem in THIS format, and even NickAgneta pointed that out. I love Magic, but if ANYONE here follows how I have drafted in these things they will know ONE THING for certain:

My first pick in these Historical Drafts have ALWAYS been a BIG.

Thank you for your time. Vote with an open mind and NO bias, please. You don't have to like me, but give my team the respect it deserves.

Final Write Up for the Philadelphia 76ers (no fancy videos for me)

I start first with the roster and years.  The key stats from the years selected is at the end.

Coach - Billy Cunningham
PG - Calvin Murphy 75-76, Kevin Porter 78-79, Reggie Theus 85-86
SG - Mark Aguirre 86-87, Theus, T.R. Dunn 82-83
SF - Julius Erving 75-76, Aguirre
PF - Spencer Haywood 72-73, Herb Williams 85-86
C - Bob Lanier 73-74,Mychal Thompson 81-82, Sam Lacey 74-75, Rich Kelley 78-79

My strategy was to take highly efficient players that were incredibly well rounded.  As such only Haywood (47.6%) and Lacey (42.7%) were below 48% from the field.  Similarly, all but Thompson (62.8%) were above 72% from the line and Aguirre was my lowest starter at 77% with Murphy approaching 91%.  My big men can all pass and are led by Lacey at 5.3 assists per game.  Similarly, my smalls are all good rebounders led by Dr. J's 11 and Dunn's 7.5 per game.

Philadelphia is one of the few teams with 3 Hall of Famers (Dr. J, Lanier, and Murphy).  Many feel Haywood would be in the HOF as well if not for his lawsuit against the league.

In addition to efficiency the Sixers also have size and versatility as well as prolificness (I think I made that one up).  For example, Reggie Theus is the 2nd biggest PG in the game aside from Magic.  He also played extensively at SG and is thus the first guard off the bench. Kevin Porter's 13.4 assists per game are the highest total of any selected year and he is thus the most prolific passer on any team.  Mark Aguirre scores a point every 80 seconds or so of game action, making him one of the most prolific scorers.  This of course continues on through Philadelphia's first three selections of Dr. J, Bob Lanier, and Spencer Haywood.

Philadelphia is coached by a Philadelphia legend The Kangaroo Kid, Billy Cunningham, who while he had a very brief coaching career of just 8 years amassed a regular season winning percentage of 69.8% and a playoff winning percentage of 62.9% which includes the 82-83 championship with the Dr. J led Philadelphia 76ers that finished an astonishing 12-1 in the playoffs after a 65-17 season. In other words, during the one year that truly matters in this draft, Philadelphia landed the title winning coach in one of the most dominant seasons in NBA history.

The projected 9 man Rotation (with anticipated minutes) with deeper bench to supplement or in certain match-ups

PG - Calvin Murphy 24, Kevin Porter 16, Reggie Theus 8
SG - Mark Aguirre 24, Reggie Theus 24
SF - Julius Erving 38, Mark Aguirre 10
PF - Spencer Haywood 35, Herb Williams 13
C - Bob Lanier 35, Mychal Thompson 13

Deeper Bench - Sam Lacey, T.R. Dunn, Rich Kelley

Stats from the seasons chosen

Dr. J - 29.3 p, 11.0 r, 5.0 a, 2.5 s, 1.9 b, 50.7% from the field, 33.0% from three, and 80.1% from the line and even better in the playoffs scoring nearly 35 and grabbing 12.6 rebounds a game and upping the FG% to 53.3% during one of his ABA MVP seasons as well as a title.

Lanier - 22.5 p, 13.3 r, 4.2 a, 3.0 b, and 1.2 s, over 50% from the field and nearly 80% from the line.  In the playoffs, he upped his scoring to 26.3 and rebounds to 15.3 and was still just as efficient.

Haywood - 29.3 p, 12.9 r, and 2.5 a, 47.6% from the field and 83.9% from the line

Murphy - 21 p, 7.3 a, 2.5 r, 1.8 s, 49.3% from the field and 90.7% from the line

Aguirre - 25.7 p, 5.3 r, 3.2 a, 1.1 s, 49.5% from the field, 35.3% from three, and 77% from the line in just 33.3 m (what I like to call instant offense)

Thompson - 20.8 p, 11.7 r, 4.0 a, 1.4 b, .9 s, 52.3% from the field and 62.8% from the line

Theus - 18.3 p, 9.7 a, 3.7 r, 1.4 s, 48% from the field and 82.7% from the line

Porter - 15.4 p, 13.4 a, 2.5 r, 1.9 s, 48.1% from the field and 72.2% from the line

Williams - 19.9 p, 9.1 r, 2.4 b, 2.2 a on 49.2% from the field and 73% from the line

Lacey - 11.5 p, 14.2 r, 5.3 a, 1.7 s, 2.1 b on 42.7% from the field and 75.4% from the line

Dunn - 7.6 p, 7.5 r, 2.3 a, 1.8 s on 48.2% from the field and 73% from the line

Kelley - 15.7 p, 12.8 r, 3.6 a, 2.1 b, 1.6 s on 50.6% from the field and 81.4% from the line in less than 34 minutes a game
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Sorry people but I have a puter problem. I think after 3 years my hard drive died, so I only have phone access. So I see only two people did presentations and one didn't even supply all his years for his team.

So if panelists have any questions for the team owners ask away or send me your votes via PM by midnight tonight.

Panelists include:

A top 5 team vote in each category(Best Defensive Team, Best Offensive Team, Best Overall Team).

When winners are announced tomorrow, next years format will be announced as well. Something easier and a bit different.

I don't know about any of the other owners but the long, holiday weekend certainly provided less motivation to get a presentation done over the past 3-4 days.  Heck, besides a quick scan of the site, I haven't been active since last week.

I can definitely put together something today.  Can you give us a day or two?

I like Philly but I am a little hesitant too vote them best team because of three players:

Murphy was a hall of famer but I think he got in because of his size and production he had at that size than because he was HOF worthy. I remember a guy that if you could stay in front of him, you could really limit his effect on a game. Of course, for a long time he didn't play with very many other good players, so maybe that is why. Still, him against  Magic or Isiah or Lever and I think he gets dominated.

Theus was a PG but more in the frame of Monta Ellis as a PG. Inefficient and not a great floor general. He loved to shoot and loved to be the guy shooting the ball for his team. With Dr J, Haywood and Lanier, I am not sure either Murphy or The us is a good match.

Aguirre, I think you are playing Aguirre out of position just to get him in the game. Again, he was a player, especially in Dallas where he loved to be the guy. It wasn't until he got to Detroit later on that he became an excellent team player. Its sort of like Paul Pierce. 2003 Pierce wasn't ready for being a champion. 2008 Pierce was. Arguirre of 86-87 was much like that.

Overall a great team with good depth. But I am not in love with the back court and love the front court, which is probably the best all around frontcourt assembled here.

Just a suggestion, if you're listing the stats of your players, I think it's so much easier for others to see if you use the single season player comparison tool at basketball-reference.com and post a link.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.cgi

Like I did this last year for my team:
First Six
Second Six

Just looking at the stats Moranis posted, and with the way formatting is here, it's not so easy to quickly take in a lot of stats sometimes.

Just throwing it out there, just in case anybody wants my non-panelist vote  ;)

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class
