Let's say that on draft day, the Celtics pick whoever then immediately announce that they are trading the draft rights to that player, their 2014 first round pick (top ten protected for 2014, decreasing in future years) and Paul Pierce.  (You would have to wait until you select the 2013 pick so that you are trading his draft rights rather than the pick because you can't trade picks in consecutive years).

What is the minimum return of talent that would make you happy?  What is the maximum that Ainge can get in return?

Keep in mind that because the draft is before July 1, you can't do send Pierce out as part of a sign-and-trade because you can't negotiate with another team's free agents before then.  If you wanted to trade Pierce as part of a sign-and-trade, you would have let his contract become fully guaranteed.

Some returns I'd take, but the other teams might not...

John Salmons and DeMarcus Cousins
Andrei Kirilenko and Derrick Williams
Goran Dragic and Marcin Gortat
Pau Gasol
Al Jefferson (S&T) and Alec Burks

I think you're looking at a mix of above-average guys, but no real superstars. For teams in the right situations (Utah, Sacto) you can get a little extra than a buck back for your buck.

Depends on whether rebuilding or not -- how much value to put on that 2014 pick.

(1) Not rebuilding = I'd say a Jeff Green level player
(2) Partial rebuilding (8-12th worst record) = All-Star talent
(3) Full rebuilding = same as above, All-Star talent.

If rebuilding, probably need a player around 26 years or younger. Something like that.

Edit: Sorry missed line about top 10 protected pick for 2014.

The Dragic/Gortat and BigAl/Burks combos would be fantastic but unrealistic IMO
