Whatever they do this place will be full of mad people who think they could do better.
I've only been mad at Danny Ainge twice... First time was when he traded the #5 pick in the 2007 draft for a 32 year old shooting guard on gimpy ankles. I threw a total fit. I've never been more enraged... you absolutely do NOT give up top 5 picks. They are GOLD. ANd certainly not for a 32 year old shooting guard on gimpy ankles. That was INSANE. Just a disgustingly stupid move. Simply adding Ray Allen to Paul Pierce (a couple top-30 players) does nothing to improve your title chances.
...
Then he traded the half the team for Kevin Garnett (superstar top 5 player at the time) and it all made sense.... Hello 3 year window!
...
The second time I was mad at Ainge was during the trade deadline last year. We either needed to dump Pierce and Ray for assets or luck into a legitimate big man to play center next to KG. There was no alternative. You either blow it up for the future or find the piece that can make you a contender. When the deadline came and went without a trade (we tried hard to move Pierce and Ray, but it fell through), I was absolutely distraught. Of course, that TECHNICALLY worked out as well, because KG ended up filling the center role and thanks to some lucky playoff draws (Horford-less Atlanta and 8th seed Philly), we got a fun little series against Miami in the ECF.
I have faith in Ainge. He knows what he's doing.
FYI, if Ainge listens to some of these fans and builds a team around Josh Smith and Rajon Rondo, it'll be just as dumb as the theoretical Pierce/Ray Allen foundation. Having a couple top 30 players is nice, but unless you have a top 5 superstar to lead them, it's not producing a contender.
