The Pacers are desperately in need of bench scoring.  Terry may thrive with a change of scenery (look at what Jamal Crawford did this season after being awful with the Blazers).  Ian Mahinmi is signed for 3 more seasons at close to the same amount as Terry, while Terry only has a couple left.  Mahinmi was signed to be a solid backup center for the Pacers but he's lost his spot to Jeff Pendergraph and hasn't really played so far in the playoffs.

I think Mahinmi is somebody who could have a shot to carve out a role on the Celtics.  He's a young player who still has some potential if he finds the right situation.  This trade would save the Pacers money long term and perhaps make them better.  I wouldn't be at all surprised if Terry looks less cooked elsewhere.

Is Ian Mahinmi not playing for Indiana because of matchups (Hawks have smaller quicker big men) or because he has fallen out of the rotation?

It looks like he was playing regular minutes late in the season in his game log. I am guessing it just due to matchups against the Hawks.

I have been impressed with Mahinmi this year. He has really come on this season. Added real bulk and can now hold his position in the paint defensively. A lot tougher physically. Better defensively because of it.

Shown good improvement since joining Indiana. I would be surprised if Indiana wanted to move him because they need a capable backup center behind minutes limited Roy Hibbert + Mahinmi has done that job well from what I have seen of him this season.

From ESPN.com:

Quote
Mahinmi has fallen behind Jeff Pendergraph in the Pacers' big-man rotation, the Indianapolis Star reports.

Spin: Mahinmi's shooting was off for a while, leading the Pacers to decide to make a change and insert Pendergraph into the primary backup center role. However, matchups could change the rotation at any time.

You're right that it looks like he was getting regular minutes a few games back into the regular season, though.

i don't think indiana would want an all talk-has been player on their team.

I agree. Indiana is a serious and strict team. They just need the right leader to guide them deep in the playoffs. Otherwise, they'll just keep getting bounced by the Miami Heat.

I label them as "the quiet ones" in the East where as the Heat, Knicks, Nets, Bulls, and Celtics are "the loud ones". Hawks and Bucks are usually "the failed ones". Lol.

If we can draft Mason Plumlee at #16 then we can pick up Mahinmi and Miles Plumlee for Terry and reunite the Plumlee brothers:-))))

Or we could sign Samuel Dalembart as a free agent??
