  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
What's even crazier is that he's missed so many games due to injury.

However, those other three were/have been very durable, so maybe he'll make a tons of threes, but play less games.

Wow - Curry could legitimately make a run at Ray before it's all said and done.

The main obstacles are that Curry has had injury issues in the past, and Ray stepped up his 3-pt rate quite a bit after his first few years.  But Curry seems like he might have a real shot.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
I really like Curry, but I think he'd have to be relatively healthy and play to his late 30s for a chance to pass Ray.

621 is incredibly impressive.

Also add in the fact that a lot of his shots are creating off the dribble, being a point guard and everything. His step back is one of the best in the league and it's difficult to double/overplay him because of his positional nature. I think next year, Curry is going to make that jump to get into the 1st tier of PGs with Chris Paul, Rondo, Westbrook, etc.

He's very good in the paint too. That outburst against the Knicks was full of difficult shots. Very impressive.

NBA is stupid for not declaring him an All-Star

Also noteworthy: Curry currently has the 4th most 3s made in a single season, with 252.  He'd need 17 in the last 3 games to tie Ray's mark from 05-06.  Tough to do but not impossible.

He's got such a long road ahead of him its not even worth talking about.

I don't remember anyone talking about Ray getting there until he was a year or 2 away.

He needs to string some seasons together first

It is really worth talking about. In just a few seasons in the league, he's inching towards the best 3 point shooting season in NBA history.

Since we're talking about Curry...

Statistically, he was the 3rd best PG in the league this year.

EFF:

#1 - Chris Paul - 23.9 (no surprise there)
#2 - Westbrook - 22.8
#3 - Curry - 21.9
#4 - Parker - 21.5
#5 - Rondo - 21.4
#6 - Irving - 20.3
#7 - John Wall - 19.5
#8 - Deron Williams - 19.3
#9 - Jrue Holiday - 18.4
#10 - Vasquez - 17.4
#11 - Lillard - 17.3

...

Interesting to note that a couple players have been great the second half of the season.  Over the past 30 games, Deron is back up to 23.2 and John Wall has been 26.6 (I didn't realize he was still only 22 years old)..  Rubio and  Mike Conley have been fantastic lately as well. Sure are a ton of quality point guards right now.

With all of these young guys coming up... with Derrick Rose presumably coming back next year...  and with 28 year old Rondo coming off a major injury and presumably losing his main offensive options (KG and Pierce)...  What's the chances Rondo will still be a top 5 point guard next year?

I imagine Ainge will be trying to sell his Rondo stock in a big way this offseason.  No sense in "building around" a 28 year old top 10 point guard who can't score.

It's far from a done deal than KG and PP are leaving. But if they do, Rondo's stats will probably improve, just like they would for most players. Presumably he'd move up in your list, not down.

For the list above the injuries work in his favor. It took him roughly a year longer to get those games in than (presumably) the other players. He's in his 4th year and averaging a lot more attempts per game than he has in the other three.

He'd probably average more points.  But it would be harder for him to score if he got more defensive attention...and it would be harder for him to get more assists if the team lost its scorers.  Also there should be a considerable shift in our playing style... we proved that sharing the ball worked better than a Rondo-centric offense where he controls the ball 99% of the time.  All this will contribute to declining stats.

Little guys who can score consistently, like Steph Curry, are flourishing in this league right now.  I'd gladly trade Rondo for Curry.  Ainge would too... unfortunately when we offered the trade to Golden State a year ago (when Rondo was healthy and Curry was injured), Golden State turned us down.   Golden State must be thrilled that they stuck with Curry.  It was always clear to me that Ellis was holding him back.  This season certainly backs that up.

I'd say pretty high.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

I'm somehow reminded of your claim that Rondo's stats would go down without Ray. In any case Rondo doesn't really have the ball 99% of the time, in fact PP and KG combine for a fair amount of assists, their replacements would presumably shoot more and pass less, which would result in more assists. Also, while Rondo will still control the ball quite a bit in the half court (the team generally does better when he does), the changes to the offense will clearly benefit Rondo, who's a great transition player.

Presuming he comes back at all next year...
