I think it's rather amazing the amount of success BC has considering what it's up against. The players have to be able to write their own names. They have to go to a cold school. The region is not known for football. The campus is small and crowded.  The coaches usually either get fired or leave if they're successful. But they have rocks to build on like always producing top OL prospects. Having more than their fair share of good QBs, excellent LBs, good DTs.  It's hard to think of a small top academic private school that has as much success as them. Northwestern? No. Duke? No. Wake Forest? No. Rice? No.  Vandy? No.  Tulane? No. Stanford? Yes. They have more success than a lot of large state schools with lower standards with a bigger area to recruit. Indiana. Illinois. Minnesota. Missouri. NC State (HA!), Washington St. Kansas. Syracuse. Kentucky. UNLV. Arizona St. Iowa St.

In the mean time not to switch the subject but PSU has 3 4 star recruits and two 3 star guys. I find that amazing.
I agree with everything except the campus being crowded. However you are looking at all the negatives, bc has a lot of positives too.

Of the colleges that are elite educationally and have division one football only Notre Dame and Stanford are better schools with (consistently) better football programs. Of elite catholic schools only ND is better, so that is a big draw considering the areas that have elite high school football happen to be conservative and pretty religious.

BC produces pro players at a rate higher than their record would indicate (not this year but in previous years). The last 8 superbowls had a BC player in them.

Elite players have a ton of media potential at BC. If a recruit turns on sports center and sees how much time ESPN spends on Boston sports , they realize that one elite team could get the rabid boston sport fan behind them.

FYI two of the questions in the Addazio chat were from me.

Which questions?
The ones asked by Evan

ha, sorry probably should have guessed
Also If you want to keep up on BC sports I've found a "good" message board at eagleoutsider.com. Good is in quotes because although they are extremely knowledgable posters are consistently snarky/rude to each other and I tried to sign up a month ago and they haven't sent me a confirmation email to join. None the less it is a great site for recruiting information.

BC nabbed another commit over the weekend.  Christian Lezzer, ILB from PA.  Had other offers from arizona, Kent state and temple, and was drawing interest from Pitt, PSU and other schools.

Currently ranked as a 2* recruit but looks to be very athletic from his tapes.

recruiting class is currently up to 8.

Next recruit to watch for a commit from would be Trey Klock 3* TE out of PA.  He recently has gotten more interest from BCS schools but was close to committing to BC when he was up for the spring game so hopefully Adazzio can  close the deal soon

CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

I'm not sold on Ryan Anderson as a true "second best player" on an ACC contending team. He dissapears to often.

I'm sold on Hanlon as a #1 option.  BC just needs another #2/#3 caliber player to compliment Anderson.  Im hoping Drago with his shooting coming in this season from Notre Dame can be that guy.

BC Football  got possibly their biggest commit in the past 5 years yesterday.  Connor Strachan, 4 star LB from Needham Mass.

Kid is an absolute monster but most importantly he is hightest ranked player in the state and he is staying home at BC.

Rivals has him as the #17 ranked ILB in the country.  Kid looks like he lives in the weight room but also runs a 4.48 40 and has good cover skills.  This commit puts BC back up into the top 25 at #22 recruiting class.

Kinda Reminds me of Mike Mclaughlin but faster.

I am pretty sure he is a junior and won't be at the Heights until 2014-15 because I thought the lineman from Everett was the best recruit this year in New England and was just a 3 star recruit.

Yup yup, the 2013 recruiting is pretty much done at this time, schools have moved on to 2014 and beyond.  2014 is the class that BC now has in the top 25.  They are up to 9 recruits

I believe the everet o-lineman was Jon montellius or something like that.  He went to ND I believe.  BC is currently recruiting lumbering figaro a 3 star safety from Everett in the 2014 class.  Hope he's talking to Jim Noel

Half of BCs starting defensive secondary will be from Everett next year(Asprilla and Noel). Believe me they will be talking up BC to anyone in Everett that wants to go there  And you don't have to worry about the Everett/BC connection. BC is the place Coach Dib tries to push all his kids because he wants them to get an education.

BC has picked up their 10th recruit of the 2014 class.  3* GA athlete Cameron Seward.  Seward projects to play a hybrid safety/OLB in Don Browns system.

BC is now ranked #22 in the 247 rankings and #17 in the Rivals Rankings.

Also, BC Defensive End Commit Harold Landy received offers from Auburn and Ohio state yesterday to go along with FSU earlier this week and South Carolina, Ole Miss  and Miami last month.

He still remains a firm commit to BC despite blowing up on the recruiting scene since he has been told he can start right away at BC

Its too bad this class is still a year and a half away. The Eagles could use some help this year. God they are going to be awful.

I think they will be alot better this year than last.  They have a former 5* lineman coming in this season that Dazzler brought from Florida (Matt Patchan) to anchor the line for a season.

Have a highly ranked DT coming in this season.

And I think Don Browns defensive philosophy is going to make a huge difference.  BC had 6 sacks all of last season.  I expect them to get 6 in one of the non conference games this year.

That said I think they are a 4-5 win team this year rather than a 2 win team last year.

But also, Rome wasn't built in a day, but I think what Addazio has been able to do given the recent issues in the program to try and rebuild have been nothing short of miraculous

I think they will be a bowl team, probably 6-8 regular season wins. The offense was pretty good last year except for turnovers and in the red zone. I expect Daz's emphasis on the run game to help them solve some of their red zone woes. Hopefully we can see smash mouth football brought back to BC. Maybe they will even run some power toss sweeps like Everett is famous for with their "student body right/left" plays. (I distinctly remember that play because when I played end I would get hit by the tight end, a pulling guard, a full back and then their qb). Did they run that when you were there Nick?

On defense they were awful but started a ton of underclassmen (which is why we have the most returning starters of any team in the ACC). Watch for Kaleb Ramsey, a big time DT who hasn't been able to stay healthy at BC but could be an elite DT that BC used to build its line around. I'm very excited to see Brown's defense, gone are the days of our corners giving teams a 15 yard cushion

I graduated in '83 when Coach Sarno was there. He was still in the smashmouth, 1960's mode of offense and yes, we ran that play a lot. Coach Agneta(yes, there is a relation there) continued that but started to introduce more passing into the offense instead of the 3 downs of dust and punt that Sarno was doing at the end. Coach Dib came in after that and ran his double wing rushing offense that was much different but still was all about power, smashmouth ball. When he had a lull in lineman size for a few years it coincided with his son's prominence as a QB and he went to a pro style offense. Now he uses a hybrid of both the double wing and the pro sets. Makes it very difficult to coach against him.
