Not the most credible source, but still a source nonetheless.

Doc has always favored veterans, and Collins most of the time. I think if they do resign him it'll be a mistake.

But despite how much hate and comments about how useless Jason Collins is. He definitely has his moments, and was definitely a great teammate in the locker room.

I guess that counts for something.

This also brings up the question, as to whether or not Al Jefferson, would be interested in coming back too. I think Al Jefferson is a offensive/rebounding beast, but is desperately limited on defense and floor spacing.

May I ask why would you want Jason Collins to come back?

I think if Kevin Garnett retires next year, we should amnesty Paul Pierce, (I know blasphemous!) and think about maybe signing Al Jefferson, and another young rebounding/defensive PF/C with potential.

We need to rebuild, and even though KG/PP together even in their age are still dominant. The longer we hold onto the two, the more it'll be harder for us to rebuild, and make our team even more deeper/flexible.

I wish there was a way we could get Josh Smith/Al Jefferson. And if Fab Melo could somehow develop into a decent C, he would be able to give us a cheaper backup front court presence. As much as people dislike Fab Melo, I think he definitely has potential.

I like Jason Collins as a third string center. I would consider bringing him back next season. I would have to check the free agent listings but I do not imagine there will be anyone better available and I don't think Fab Melo will be ready to relied on for the role.

If you can find a better center who WANTS to come to Boston as a third-string center, I suppose we could try them.

I don't see it, so I like Collins who has been a reliable backup.

Exactly.

(1) minimum contract + (2) third string role

I expect Jason Collins will be the best available option given those parameters.

Yeah, under those circumstances, I'd be fine with re-signing him, as well (with the caveat that I wouldn't want Danny passing over better players to sign him, like he did last off-season.)

I think Collins is a great last resort for the C's. Knowing he wants to come back and play for us next season is a great asset to have in our back pocket as we go searching for potential back-up centers.

Danny has the opportunity to scour the market for better talent, but knows at the same time that he has a reliable vet he can turn to if there isn't anybody out there worth taking a chance on.

We don't have to try and lock him up early and can let the market play out. Maybe we get lucky and somebody falls into our lap and if not we can always call JC before the start of the season.

I think that's a pretty nice way of looking at it, seeing as Collins isn't a big-name FA or urgently looking for a job (or is he?)
