Brandon Bass has played remarkably well during the past two weeks. His offensive numbers are up: 12.3 points, 6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 blocks in 31 minutes. And…
But Bass has made the biggest strides on the other end of the floor. Over the past nine games, Bass is allowing a mere 0.684 points per play, according to Synergy data. To put that in perspective, that’s an Avery Bradley-caliber number (for the season, Bradley has allowed 0.695 points per play, best in the NBA among those with at least 400 plays defended).

Im very very surprised with this stat seeing how it seems we get torched every night KG is out.

Just read this on ESPN Boston. Was also going to make a post about it titled, "Is Bass back?"

Some stuff from Forsberg below.

Since KG went down Bass is producing like he did last year with Rondo.

Quote
Including the night that Garnett originally tweaked his left ankle in New Orleans, Bass has averaged 12.3 points, 6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 blocks over 31.4 minutes per game. That's far more in line with last season's production (12.5 points, 6.2 rebounds over 31.7 minutes per game) than this year's underwhelming totals (8.1 points, 5.2 rebounds over 27.3 minutes per game for the season).

Even more impressive.

Quote
Over the past nine games, Bass is averaging 1.067 points per play, according to Synergy Sports data. If he maintained that number, he would be among the 15 most efficient scorers in the league (alongside the Durants and LeBrons of the world).

He's taking better shots.

Quote
Bass is shooting 56 percent from the floor in that nine-game span and seems to have benefited from shuffling a bit closer to the basket. From 8 to 16 feet, Bass is shooting a glossy 82.4 percent (14-of-17; he's only 6-of-21 beyond 16 feet).

Bass admitted he's slowly starting to emerge from a shooting funk that he's been mired in for much of the season.

It looks like he is stepping his game up at both ends at the right time of the year.

Bass already was eighth on that list at 0.761 points per play, but the fact that he's elevated his defensive game without Garnett is unexpected.

i dont think ppl understand that "minutes played" is probably the most important basketball stat other than the final score.

those stats are numbers almost identical to the ones he put up last season. including the minutes. bass has played well overall since the end of february, and im glad that bass is improving on defense. all he gotta do is keep it up.

Glad to see him scoring better, but he still needs to box out.  He has a body capable of it, no excuses for me.

But to be fair... if he's hitting his jump shots and playing solid otherwise, he would be like last year (where I liked him).  With KG out the weaknesses are just more clearly on display.

Bass has been playing much better and it looks as though Bradley has gotten out of his shooting slump too. I like how our probable starting lineup of Bass-Green-KG-Bradley-Pierce will look heading into the playoffs.

Its nice to see Bass playing on par with where he was last year just in time for the playoffs.

Man got his contract, now he can coast during the regular season and turn it on when it really matters.

It's been a very noticeable change, both on the floor and on the stat sheet. He had some huge rebounding games too; great job Bass!

We need him playing like this when the Playoffs come around.

He also limited Charlie Villanueva to 2-17 shooting, which essentially won us the game, by nulling the 25 offensive boards.

His defense has fallen off the charts lately, ridiculously good numbers all around.

Glad he's improving, but he's a big part of the reason we haven't been successful in the regular season. Hope he can play well in the playoffs and make me change my mind about him.
