I think Pierce comes back. I think Garnett is 50-50 on a return.

If both are back, nothing major changes. The core eight or nine players return.

Perhaps a trade of Bass and parts/picks for another piece, if Ainge and Co. think Sullinger and Green can divide all of the available minutes at PF.

My nightmare:

Hardly anything changes.  Team signs a center like Mozgov or Dalembert, perhaps using the younger guys on non-guaranteed deals as sign and trade ballast.

What I hope happens:

Pierce and Garnett retire, we make a couple of short term signings to shore up holes, unload Terry for an expiring contract or cap relief and a second round contract, we explore trade options for Bass, and then we go into next year looking to start a disciplined rebuild.  We let Rondo work his way back into form and then explore trade options around the trade deadline to see if there are any young high-potential prospects available.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

It depends on what happens to both kg and pierce. It doesn't matter which player is out , the other will probably follow.

situation 1: KG doesn't have anymore to give. Can't see him playing the game coming from the bench. Calls it quits. Pierce likely than request for a buyout to sign with another team/contender.

situation 2: Celtics buy out Pierce. KG then either retires or gets traded.

situation 3: both KG and Pierce comeback for one last try. Both Rondo and Sully comeback healthy. Plus a 100 percent AB.

Situation #1, 2 would be the worse for us. Because we lose and don't get nothing in return plus now our team is without two of its leaders. Situation #3 is the safest way to prevent a dramatic rebuild. If KG gets injured, you still can trade Pierce and getback something.

Offseason pickup will be pretty much non existent unless # 1, 2 happens. But i don't think there is anyone danny is going to have big eyes to try to sign, even if we offered max. 2014-2015 will bring out some bigger FA players in the market, and DA may just wait then.

Hopefully alot.

Despite what happens this year, I can GUARANTEE you that Pierce and KG will have nothing left to give after this season.

How many times can you go back to the same players?

Like another fan mentioned, hopefully Danny is creative and bold this offseason because it's time for a new change in direction. I think the most realistic trade targets should be Pau Gasol, Kevin Love, Amar'e Stoudemire and perhaps look at Smoove in free agency (if they have the money.)

I also think that a Rondo, Bradley, Green, Sully lineup as others have suggested is a 500 average team at best.

Realistically what do you think we would have to give up to get Love? I would say if KG and Pierce retired we could send them both to Minnesota before they file their papers in return for love and any contracts they want to unload (and some picks) but they really don't have very many contracts to unload.
Would you give up Bradley? Would you give up Sully? Would you give up Green? Would you give up Rondo? or some combination of those guys?
I am a huge Love fan but I don't see what type of fair package we could give up for them.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Call me crazy, but I think if we offered some type of package revolving around Rondo, Green, Sully and KG or Pierce's expiring contract for Rubio and Love, they possibly listen.

PP and KG would be at worst fringe all-star players next year. The odds on PP being better than Pau and Amar'e next year are pretty good, the odds on KG being better than them aren't bad. I don't think grabbing either of them would be a bold new direction.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Pierce might be moved. He won't retire. He's got plenty of game left. KG might retire though.
I think we'll try and replace green with a lottery pick or a proven scorer for green and sully.
Danny talking up Green so much makes me think he realizes Green isn't the small forward of the future for us.
We'll probably go after Josh Smith & if we can't get him, we'll go after millsap.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I hope a lot.

My dream scenario would be:
1. Kg and pierce retire
2. We trade a package of Bass, Terry, Lee, Crawford, Melo, 2nd round picks and maybe a first in 2015, in a 4 team trade in which we get Demarcus Cousins.
3.Sign:
Josh Smith (12 mil )
Martell Webster ( 5 mil )
Chris Wilcox (1.5 mil )
Aj Price (3 mil )

4. Draft Trey Burke

If Dmc, reaches his potential, Round comes back the same, and J smith doesn't get snubbed again, we have 3 allstars and solid third option players like Jeff Green and Avery Bradley.

Rondo/ Burke/ Price
Bradely/ Webster/ T-Will
Green
Smith / Sullinger
Cousins/ Wilcox

All the team needs us a backup Sf,  a guy who can consistently get buckets from the perimeter, and we could use more 3 point shooting.

I don't think Ainge will take the risk with putting all money on Sullinger, who will be fresh off of a back surgery with less than a full NBA season on his resume.

I don't think to much.

I would love to see them move a lot of role players contracts.  And with the way some of them have been playing lately, I can see it happening.

I want the Celtics to be Rondo, some rookie contracts and cap flexibility when KG and Pierce finally retire.  (unless they can trade for a star type player before then.)

I dont think Ainge will panic looking at the C's right now...their best player(rondo) and their best rotation Big behind KG(sullinger) are out for the year...and right now they are playing without KG

most teams would struggle in that situation...heck the bulls arent fareing too much better without Rose

it all hinges on what KG/Pierce do...if they stay..then I think you make some minor additions and roll with what you have.

you have to think our young players like sullinger/bradley will improve and hopefully Rondo has a nice comeback year from injury

Pierce, Rondo, Lee, Bradley, Terry, Green, and Sullinger are the players I expect to stay. The rest I expect to be let go, traded, retired, whatever.

Can't we just bring Gerald Green back?
