You're assuming that Chris Andersen or Kenyon Martin had any interest in playing for a 7th or 8th seed non-contender.

Plus, this is a mostly young team, and adding one of those guys would not have made us a contender.  Bringing in questionable character guys to this locker room would be risky and wouldn't have much upside.  Not a smart move.

I disagree

DA re-signed Jeff Green, signed a Darko, got KG to stay, got LB
traded a broken LB and a useless JC for Crawford

I first feel like Doc has poorly utilized (and will continue to poolry utilize) the talent we have.
I think DA may have let what Doc and other players said affect his choice to bring in a Kmart or Birdman but I think passing on these two guys who have played minutes since day 1 with their new teams is not a good base.

If we sign Kmart or Chris, we barely play them and get mad when they don't produce. So...lol

I have no problem with Ainge thinking beyond this season and declining to go after an injury-prone mid-30s veteran.

Not assuming anything, keynon martin made it clear to everyone listening that he was willing to go to any team that wanted him so yeah, not assuming. If the celtics wanted him, he'd be here.

Also as far as everything else you said, I think you're far far off base here. Did any of the guys we eventually signed make us contenders? Kenyon martin was a better fit than anybody we signed. And birdman would have done just fine in a limited role here. Definitely no worse than the guys we have.

Martin is giving the Knicks 23 quality minutes a night, averaging 8.6 points and 5.3 boards. You think signing him for the vet min was worth getting this kind of production? Yeah, I think so.

I pushed for Andersen all off-season, so you won't hear me arguing with you.  He would have been a great fit in terms of defense, rebounding, and attitude.

i understand the basic points about anderson in this thread and the over all celtic love that wishes the team was better.

but i watched anderson in a recent game against the celtics and green absolutely abused him. anderson had no idea how to guard green, was out of position, slow to react, and was an obvious alum of the school of matador defense.

advocate for anderson's offense if you wish, i wont argue with you. but his defense when i watched him was pathetic. maybe it was just that game, but it did not seem to be the case.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Um, no center in the league can stay in front of Green on the perimeter if he is attacking.  That's an unfair expectation.

This thread sounds like one of those "BOS's season is over, we could've/should've/would've" threads........

I trust that Danny did what he thought was best.

The one thing we can't factor in is injuries...they've affected many teams this season.

Chris Paul sat out quite a few games...perhaps Clips record is closer to OKC or San Antonio if not for that.

Kobe may not come back near 100% for rest of season, including playoffs. I know that for him to play in pain is acceptable, but every man has his limits.

We know about DRose situation in CHI.

Marc Gasol could have a lingering injury.

The list goes on and on...

At the time that Kenyon (and especially Chris Anderson) were available, I don't think that we had such a HUGE need for either of them.

I'm just optimistic going forward. I know that it's natural to be concerned with KG given his age, but I trust that he'll come back rdy.

The team has seemingly played well without Rajon. I know he will be missed (as will Sully), but as Jet said just the other day - "I like our team and chances".

Bass has seemingly played better the last few weeks.

Let's not start to bury us just yet.

I was all for them signing Martin, but come on, you could have no idea that he was going to produce that well. He could have just as easily gone down with an injury and not have played any significant role.

The reason he was a free agent that late into the season was because he was a risky option based on his injury history. Hindsight is 20/20.

Totally agree with the OP.  I have wanted Birdman for a while and I wanted Martin although i wasn't sure how much he had in the tank.  It should have been obvious that they are better than the bums at the end of the Celts bench.

Well, both guys are taller than 4'11, so Danny Ainge has no use for them.

I think it was a reasonable choice, given the available information at the time.
