For whatever it's worth, the Pats go away with a last-second no-call in the Saints game:

That's a pretty blatant hold.  The Jets call just evens things out, I guess.  (Or, the Pats are actually ahead, as the refs only called 50% of the last-play penalties that they could have.)

Not sure it makes a difference but I would have been fine with the refs throwing a flag on that.

Anybody whose played the game on the line or even just watched football intently knows that you can call holding on just about every play.   The egregious stuff is gonna get called.  The ticky-tack stuff usually not.

However, it goes on basically every play in football.

Was it the same ref that through the flag on chandler jones for unecessary roughness?  If so I think I agree with Eja that the ref has a bookie.

I'm told Jets coaches did alert officials to several things to watch for w/Pats' special teams, inc potential FG push, before Sunday's game.

And they were like "Oh. And if you could call this in a really crucial situation that would be even better. I mean considering nobody has called this all year and whatnot."

Sounds about right.

Common practice in football.  Plant something in the ref's head.  I have no qualms with that.  It's gamesmanship.

I'm not really emotionally invested in any of this, but reading this discussion makes me wonder for about the millionth time why anyone would ever be a ref.

I would compare it to Dwight Howard being called for a rare 10-second violation for taking too long on a free throw because an opposing coach complained.

That sort of penalty is probably only going to be called in a crucial situation because the rule violation may be more likely to occur when a team wants an extra little something on a field goal attempt in a close game.

Yup. And the refs totally fell for it like they were owned.

These aren't the droids you're looking for.

Also, for what it's worth, there is a video out there of the Jets doing exactly the same type of pushing on the game-tying FG in regulation.

Here is the Gif of when the Jets second level player pushed a player on the line into the formation on the game tieing FG attempt which was not called.

Right, I thought I may have seen it here. I'm already forgetting what came through CB, and what was on the WEEI Twitter feed :-D

So, basically Belichick got out-coached.

Yes. You should never rely on refs to do their job right.  Woulda been nice if the refs had looked at the Jets for the same thing, but they didn't. Gee I wonder why. Yeah. "Out coached". That's what we'll call it. Bill himself said so
