I'm struggling to think of an "NBA comparison" that excites me less than Spencer Hawes.

Spencer does love those long 2s...

I've watched him a little and I can tell you he's more athletic than Hawes every day of the week. Watching him play and run you almost don't believe he's 7'0".

His per 36 rebounding is about 10 per game and he seems to really enjoy running the floor. Not sure I'd pull the trigger on him but I wouldn't be disappointed if Danny did.

What really intrigued me with Olyny was his pace in the open floor/ fast break. It would be a real asset to have a 7fter who runs the floor like Wilcox and has a softer touch.

I'm not a big fan of his defensive capabilities. But i do get that he is still building his body (still pudgy) and is really like sf/pf than a center. Like a nowitski

Has the total package in terms of offensive skills for a big man in this draft. Has been part of probably the best team of the nation that has only lost 2.

We will see what happens in the March Madness, though one would feel the faster Gonzaga gets upset the more likely Olynyk might still be available when we pick. Pat Riley and his last picking Heat have no chance at Olynyk

Let's remember that Jared Sullinger had a similar skills + physical tools profile and people expected him to be a poor defender.  Turns out he's pretty good as a post defender.

Honestly, getting a Spencer Hawes type with a mid first round pick in a supposedly weak draft would be a pretty good get, if you ask me.

Does Olyny have any teammates that Ainge could also bring on board?

Maybe Elias Harris as a second round pick, allthough i think we don't have a 2nd rounder this season .

If we could get him I like his potential a lot.

I think it'd be easier to teach a guy who can move defense rather than teach a guy who at his height can't move that kind of offense.  Sure, he may never become too good of a defender, but oh well.  He would have strengths and with it seems solid footwork I don't know why he couldn't at least be a solid defender.

The one time we had a good low post scorer with Shaq our offense was outstanding.  This kind of player could be great, especially in a fast break style.

I like it.  I'll keep an eye on him.

Sure, but have you actually watched Hawes?

.... well we do play Philly quite a lot.

Hawes doesn't move all that well, so I don't even get the comparison.  Seems like a bit of a "oh they're both white" comparison.

Hmmm... I'll be happy if Danny picks big men with upside when there is no clear cut guy to go with... if he'd done that in 2007, we'd have had Marc Gasol instead of Gabe Pruitt and in 2008 we'd have had D. Jordan instead of JR G(oodr)iddens.

I don't know, Hawes has always looked more athletic than I'd expect from a player his size. But maybe it's just me.

Have you ever seen him put the ball on the deck and drive past people like this?  I don't recall it.

To me Hawes has always had a shot and solid fundamentals and a solid build.  That's been about it (not that he's an oaf or anything, but not a big I see as a guy who can really move).

Consider the competition. Most of these moves are not going to work in the NBA (and he seems a little out of control half of the time).

Fabricio oberto, 3pts 4rebs a game. Ugh

Yeah, but Oberto has that cool "Argentina hair."

Fair enough, but I could still see it happening and certainly on the break, where I don't recall Hawes ever really doing the either.
