In a few short weeks, I am going to see the Celtics play up front and live for the first in about five years when they face Memphis at the Fed Ex Forum. Understandly, I am rather excited to see this game. So I find myself on a daily basis visualizing the matchups in my head all the time. There should be some good matchups in this game. Garnett vs Gasol, Pierce vs Prince, and of course Bradely vs Allen.

When I think about this matchup, I keep getting sidetracked because  I am having a hard time deciding on which player would be better for the Celtics at this point for the franchise. Who would you rather wear the Green uniform?

They are very simliar players, but at the same time they are equally diverse. They are both reguarded as top flight defending guards. They are both rather small for the two guard position and limited offensive players using back cuts in the half court to be effective.

Defensivly Tony a lockdown wing defender who is a more physical defender capable of guarding players much bigger than himself because he has great footwork and strength. Avery more of a point guards nightmare with his consistent ball pressure and harrassing defense on opposing point guard. Offensively Tony can slash in the half court and run in transition , but has a horrible jumper and is prone to bonehead moves. Avery a spot up shooter to this point still finding his niche is an inconsistent shooter and finisher.

I may be in the past still with Tony talk, but I think what he has done in Memphis is remarkable considering he was in Doc Rivers doghouse for a good part of six seasons. So would you take Tony back and trade Avery? Or you would rather have Avery and let Tony continue his journey in a different uniform?

I enjoy watching Bradley.  Especially on the defensive end.  Trick or Treat Tony used to drive me nuts.  He was prone to making some of the most boneheaded plays you'd ever see on the floor.  Then there were moments he was dialed in.  You never knew what you were going to get.

So, I'd take Bradley and let Trick or Treat to continue his journey elsewhere.

AB.

Younger, cheaper, more potential, smarter, and better offensively.

TA is stronger and bigger but offensive game and the fact he won't get better makes this a no brainer for who I would rather have going forward.

Better offensively? The jury is still out on this. Tony Allen was shooting .350 from three after his first two seasons, too.

I'm a bit more partial to TA - can defend more positions, very good rebounder, more aggressive punishing weak defenders (in the post or off the bounce), better at drawing fouls.

Bradley's an easier guy to fit on any team with his cutting and moderately effective J, his willingness to embrace a low usage role and his unmatched commitment to play full-court defense, and his potential to improve shouldn't be discounted.

AB, on smarts alone, never-mind upside.

TA made one of the stupidest, most bone-headed moves that a player could make, and it still angers me to this day, because it robbed himself and us of his play for an extended period of time: that self-inflicted blowing out of his knee on a dead play.

Dumb, dumb and dumberer.

Trying to dunk anytime that isn't during a game is a dumb play?

I guess you hate every basketball player who's got some hops ever.

Avery is a smart player.  Tony is not.

Tony Allen was mostly garbage with an extremely low iq  as far as I'm concerned until the 2010 playoff run to the finals, and he's continued that in Memphis and really been wonderful for them.

While a Celtic Avery was/is smarter and better but Tony is currently better...for another franchise.

TA wasn't as dumb a player as people claim, he got that reputation for a) biting on a few pump fakes at inopportune times and b) playing a lot of games on less than healthy knees. On a "dumb" scale if you're going to kill TA for dunking on a dead ball I'd hate to think about the comments you must make about KG going up to block every jumper in a dead ball situation.

As much as I like Tony Allen's defense, Avery is a superior defender with better instincts and vastly more disciplined.

I trust him on offense more, but Tony had superior penetrating instincts, and capability to draw fouls. Finished stronger around the basket too.

Avery Bradley is a superior slasher, but this year he's been having some trouble with those layups. Hopefully that's merely a bit of rust after his surgeries because last year he was finishing very well, at least in the 2nd half he was.

Clearly Micahel Jordans dunk contests aere as dumb as that play. Same with Lebrons totally wicked awesome warm up dunks

Pretty much since it was TA people ragged on him for 10x more than they would other players. People despised TA for a while

Tony played dumb (especially on offense so many turnovers), but I don't think his after the whistle dunk was anything to get mad at him about.

I was getting ready to say the same thing. Not quite understanding the whole "Dumb" thing that's getting tossed around at TA.

He played some seriously dumb basketball offensively, so many out of control drives and turnovers......
