It makes zero sense to get Smith without Rondo, they are best friends.

Did you read the thread?

I would LOVE to deal Rondo and get Horford.

I agree that IF we can trade PP to the Cavs and get that trade exception, that and a few picks OR Bass and the exception would have a chance to get Smith to Beantown.

Atlanta will lose him for NOTHING if a sign and trade is not worked out or IF they don't re-sign him (which they don't appear to want to do, at least at Josh's asking price).

As far as good, solid basketball goes, Josh Smith embodies none of it. He's a superb athletic specimen, but far too often he relies on that sheer athleticism rather than developing fundamental solid defense. Offensively, he has no jumpshot whatsoever, yet he insists on shooting mid-range jumpers and three-pointers anyway. Placing Smith alongside Rondo would create two key players who are FT liabilities in late-game situations. This isn't even getting into the financial details. Smith supposedly wants to get paid max money. MAX MONEY! Yeesh.

Danny Ferry is a smart GM, and that's why he's not looking to resign Josh Smith. Neither should Danny Ainge. Let Smith go to an overly desperate team willing to overspend right now. Philly sounds like a perfect destination.

You're not getting Teague _and_ Horford from the Hawks. You may get Teague and a pick, if you're lucky.

Lucky aside from the downgrade in talent, that is.

Really I think he is an average GM.  He got lucky and Drafted LeBron but his other picks and signing while in CLE were so so and locked up a lot of cap space on duds.

I agree. Never said Ferry was good, just that he's smart. He always plays it safe, and like you said, sometimes he plays it too safe. He could never pull himself to complete those blockbusters to surround Lebron with true elite talent, and I think that's what ultimately separated him from achieving championship success in Cleveland.

My nightmare is Josh Smith on this team....I've NBA league pass the last two years and originally romanticized the idea as well, but then I watched the Hawks and then I watched them some more...Smith is a whiny, inconsistent, player with Antione Walker shot selection.  He could be a great low post defender and effective pick and pop 4 with some low block scoring...instead he wanders the 3-point line and only goes low when he feels like it.  Rondo and Smith together would destructive to any team concept and undermine any coach.  (just my two cents)

I think Josh Smith had a misunderstanding with his teammate  and coach in Atlanta the last 2 seasons. Mainly because he's still immature.
However I believe under a big franchise like Boston, the guy can be controlled. I'm sure he will be a better player in Boston. Rondo will make sure he's on the right path here.
If he comes here he won't have a max contract though. Anyway I don't think any franchise will be stupid enough to offer a max contract to Smith. He's not worth that... yet!

I too am very afraid of bringing Josh Smith in to the C's and with how often he gets talked about in Boston and his relationship with Rondo I'm worried Danny could make it a reality.

Don't get me wrong Smith is unbelievably talented, plays great defense and is extremely athletic, but I think he is one of those stars that doesn't fit well into a championship team. He is a star, but the way he plays just doesn't mesh well with good team basketball.

I think if he was put in the right position where he didn't have to be "the man" all the time and worked more to his strengths rather than taking horrible shots and trying to do too much, he could be really effective. At the same time he could turn us into the Boston Hawks, where we have a load of talent, but can't put it together in a way to get us out of the first round.

I'd rather focus on getting us a top-flight center or a shooter who would be better paired with Rondo.

I like the Rondo for Horford idea if they would do it.  Rondo/Sullinger for Horford/Jenkins?

Another trade to get a center:

What about Rondo/Crawford for Salmons/Cousins?  Kings draft Steven Adams at #7 to get a replacement center.

With either trade, Celtics would have to go PG at #16.  Schroeder, Canaan, LArkin, or hope for McCollum.

You're not getting Teague _and_ Horford from the Hawks. You may get Teague and a pick, if you're lucky.

Lucky aside from the downgrade in talent, that is.
Yeah, well, Teague is not exactly chopped liver. And Rondo just had a major knee procedure.

Teague's fairly pedestrian. I'll grant you the downgrade in talent won't happen until Rondo comes back from injury though.

Nope. It has to happen now. Smith is threatening atl he is leaving.

Atl prob would like compensation back , bc of his high dollar demand. But worse for them he could leave without them getting jack.

Instead they might desperately try to grab rondo. But due to his injury no way they give up horford now. Its likely both 2013 1sts, teague or 2013 1st,  2014 1st teague.

If i were danny, id really think about it

Haha. I meant there wouldn't be a downgrade in talent until Rondo's playing again.
