thanks for caring, but I'm not too worried. Hurricanes typically get weaker once it hits land, and correct me if I'm wrong, it already hit the south and the Caribbeans, we probably won't get hit as hard as the south did.

But yeh drive safely and be very careful while driving cuz of the winds and heavy rainfall

While it's true that hurricanes weaken after moving across land and away from warmer waters, I wouldn't underestimate this storm.  The track/path of tropical systems are notoriously difficult to forecast (that is the reason we cannot deviate from the NHC's forecasts) and obviously a lot depends on where this one lands.  What makes this storm unique is that we have a strengthening upper level disturbance in the Ohio Valley and a high off eastern Canada.  The high will not allow the storm to move out to sea and it will be picked up (absorbed) by that upper level disturbance.  Basically, warm and cold air will clash allowing the whole thing to strengthen some rather than just weakening and falling apart.

Holy carp. Talk about an October surprise.

PS, just because a hurricane loses steam over cuba, doesn't mean it's not going to pick up steam again over the entire mid-atlantic.

Irene wasn't slight in Vermont. If the storm gets stalled up over you, you'll be hurting even if it's only moving at class 2.
Like Katrina.

Everytime I see this thread my brain wonders, why should I be worried in Nebraska?

"State of emergency" here in southern nh... Meaning some wind and some rain. All schools and colleges were cancelled, not really sure why. We were in the "red zone" but had our power flicker maybe once. Appreciate the thoughts and wish those who got hit hard the best... But man do I hate how the media overdoes these things.

  • Ashy To Classy, baby.
Walked around Salem, MA when the storm was at its heaviest a few hours ago. Wasn't bad. Winds heavy, but not immobilizing. Trees fallen, ponchos worn. It was pretty creepy though.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

given the damage in NJ and NY they were rightfully being cautious. Glad it missed you.
