Nope. Rondo and Bradley make a defensive duo that no NBA back court would want to face in a 7 Game Series. Not Rondo and Lee, not Rondo and Barbosa, Rondo and Bradley.

I don't think anything is set in stone.  I think Danny is simply trying to acquire assets.  That's how he landed KG and Ray 5 years ago: he had lots of young valuable assets to trade away.

I think he's doing that here and building the depth to make such trades.  However, I wouldn't say that Bradley is done here.  One, the appropriate trade has to be out there.  And secondly, I think it's quite possible that Lee could be the one part of a larger deal down the road.

Agreed.

The more depth you have the easier it is to make a big trade and replace those traded players with veterans that know the system and can be ready to step into a role. I see a big trade coming this season from Mr. Ainge.

i think everyone can be a trade chip in one way or another

we are set up to trade for a disgruntled all star... we just need time for a star like anthony davis to become disgruntled then we come in a swoop them.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
OP, Bass,Bradley and Melo is short of money to get Smith, Lee has to be added but then it's overpaying. Take out either Melo or Bradley then it's a deal.

And again, we are NOT trading Lee after we convinced him to sign with us for less money.

Why not ? This is Danny Ainge we're talking about here. If the right deal comes up, you can bet your a$$ he'll pull the trigger. Who offered him more money? I need proof too, not just speculation that Minnesota were dying to sign him. Someone is potentially going. If so, it's Bass or Sully and that then includes Bradley or Lee to make money work one way or the other because its more unlikely we are moving Jeffrey Green than Lee to get Smith.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Is Pierce too old to be a trade chip at this point?

If we could trade Pierce + assets for Josh Smith, I'd be comfortable starting Jeff Green at SF.
I like that too but no sure why Atlanta would do that after dumping Joe Johnson.  Nobody is going to want Pierce at his current salary.  I believe he also has a no trade clause.

What I do see from this signing though is that we're going to have a bunch of relatively average and/or small shooting guards and then two really good small forwards.  From watching Doc I doubt he'll use Pierce at the 2 much but I think that would get all our best talent on the floor at the same time with Pierce and Green at the wings.  I see they are going to be playing a lot of small ball and I think it's goin to hurt them.
If Green plays a lot of 4 and Terry and Barbosa play a lot at the 2 the defense will have some gaping holes.

I don't think that trading Pierce for Smith makes us a better team.

Probably not this year, but definitely next year and onward it would make us better.

I still wouldn't do it myself.

Yeah Varejao would be a very good fit next to KG.

But he's injury prone and Cleveland seems determined to keep him the past two years.

The question you'd then have to ask yourself is whether a Rondo / Smith / Green core going forward is good enough to win.  I'm not sure it would be, and the thought of tying $15+ million of our cap up in Josh Smith scares me.

As things stand, we're currently a title contender, and probably the one team that can challenge Miami in the East.  I don't think it would make a lot of sense for us to trade Pierce, who is still an excellent player on both ends.
