Develop Sully and Melo, and give KG more minutes at 4 to preserve him.
No thanks. Maybe 5 years ago. More like 10.

we're one injury away from treasuring bass, even though i like sully, green, and wilcox more.
Wilcox and sully are injuries waiting to happen unfortunately, and pierce and kg are vulnerable as well.
Bass is an awesome insurance policy at worst, and a decent starter at best. He could certainly improve over last year. He didnt always have a deadly jumper.
So isnt the addition of a reasonably healthy, albeit long in the tooth, experienced veteran just what you are advocating here?
Not really. I was partly exaggerating when I said we would treasure Bass if one injury happened.
Kind of like we'd treasure Dooling if Rondo got hurt, just because he'd be useful depth instead of not useful depth.
I have Bass, Wilcox, Sully, and Green rated about even. KG, however prideful he may be, has expressed quiet desire to play PF and ease his load. Danny leaked about how much work and energy it takes for KG just to be able to play.
KG won't come out and say he'll only play PF, but he will be hinting at it and pushing for it when he meets with Doc.
KG did afterall wait to re-sign with the Celtics until after the draft. He wanted to make sure they addressed the center position so that he would have some help. The Celtics drafted two center capable prospects, and KG re-signed.
Sully and Melo are great talents, and well worth developing over the course of the season and beyond. They are quite possibly the front line of the future.
Last year Danny chose not to re-sign Delonte because he wanted to take pressure off of Bradley and get him regular minutes without looking over his shoulder.
It worked out very well, and Bradley never would have supplanted Ray Allen as starter if Bradley had been splitting minutes with Delonte and getting pulled every time he made a mistake.
The locker room also had a truly special chemistry to it, according to Doc Rivers and the team. No head cases, and eager young minds absorbing the practice habits, attitudes, and skills of great veteran leadership.
I'd compare Martin to DWest in those two ways, and the decision-making process will include those same considerations.
I will say that we may be one injury away from being one injury away from cherishing KMart as a spot backup.
As good as the chemistry was last year, you have to wonder if DWest would have made a difference when Ray was hobbled and fatigued against the Heat last year in the last couple games of the series.
It's a tricky equation for sure. But at this point I'd rather sign a decent backup SF instead of a PF. I'd rather risk the potential stunting or slowing of Joseph's development than our first rounders.
Worst case scenario if we don't sign another PF is that Collins might actually see the floor in spot meaningful minutes.
