Kudos to that officer for being polite, professional, knowing the law, and being able to articulate it.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I do not like these second amendment activists attempting to lure honest officers into a gotcha moment. Do not like it at all, and the kid talking comes off as a complete tool in my own personal opinion.

So that cop could have been out protecting people and fighting crime but instead had to deal with that. Lovely.

Yeah thank god this moron 20 year old is standing around on the side of a busy road with a gun strapped to his chest.  No crimes can be committed in the area now.  Nobody has ever committed a crime when there's another guy with a gun standing around.

I do however think that the officer did a heck of a job. Glad there are guys like him out there.

Also for those who don't know, here is how it works:

Someone with a camera and a legally obtained firearm walks around scaring the bejeezus out of people until a cop comes to talk to them. Then they record the encounter to make sure the cops do everything by the letter. I find it despicable. Scaring regular people, especially in the wake of recent attacks. They 'outraged' that the cops are making sure that they're not another headline waiting to happen.

His non-applicable smug responses made him very unlikable. The officer had reasonable suspicion all day long. However, if that officer wasn't able to articulate that the gun in question could have possibly been an automatic, he would not have been able to do what he did here.

I saw a guy like this in a local grocery store a month or so ago...he wasn't carrying anything like the weapon in the clip, but he was definitely openly toting.

I'm all for rights and everything, but this is not for me. And I've had training in several different firearms while in service.

I'd personally feel more comfortable dialing 911 and hoping that an officer like the one in the clips shows up. This guy handled the situation here masterfully.

Absolutely. But, I remember what it was like to be 20 years old with strong opinions and just enough knowledge to think I know everything there is to know. Kid probably thought he was doing a public service.

Doesn't make it right, but he'll hopefully grow out of it enough to be ashamed of it someday.

I own a shotgun for home defense and I support the right to own certain types of firearms, however I don't feel comfortable with open carry.

If I was outside my home at a store, a theater, or a political event, and saw a citizen armed with a gun I would immediately leave the scene without hesitation.

Who's to say how that person will act?  Is this person sober?  Is this person sane?  Do they use their weapons to intimidate even if they do not brandish them (if I work at a store I will agree with them even if they are wrong on a price dispute etc.). Does their right to bear arms in public tread on my right to feel safe outside my home?

This is a can of worms and I fear I am not explaining my position very well.  Hope you can understand.

I get it, and I agree, but a lot of people don't, and the vast majority of those people aren't the type of guys who would open fire at a group of people, or even use their sidearm without really thinking about it first, as it should be.

But a guy carrying a semi-auto rifle and (if I heard the audio right) a secondary sidearm? I pray the cops watch that guy.

I believe that you can carry certain weapons if you'd like. At the same time, I also believe that if you do wanna carry, you can also get searched, harrased by the cops, scrutinized and anything else that comes along with carrying the weapon, especially if it's in the name of public safety.

I mean, I have the right to drive, but I still need a license, I still have rules to follow by, and if  I am driving wrecklessly, even if I am on the right, I can still get pulled over and get held up by a cop and present all the paperwork that supports that right to drive a car.

The kid in the videotape has dangerously low self esteem.  Hard to believe someone could be so lost, scared and battered by life that that would be their pathetic attempt at getting attention from another human being.  If, over time, he can't find a more emotionally satisfying way of connecting with other human beings, and develop a sense of self worth, there's a decent chance he turns the gun on himself.

I can't believe that's legal! Are there any restrictions about being around schools or heavily populated areas with a gun like that out in the open?

I have never in my 43 years of life seen any private citizen parade around a public street with a weapon that looked like that one out in the open, and I hope I never do.

That kid is a dangerous fool in my opinion.   If I saw that in my neighborhood, I would definitely call the cops.  Ridiculous!!
