I am an admirer and a superfan of Jefferson, I think the Celtics have to sign that player, but at the trade deadline, next summer, Big Al will be a free agent.
Big Al would be a perfect fit to counter the signing of Howard, Big Al is an all star, underrated, Celtics not a large market for star free agents, but Jefferson is a type of player who wants to return to Boston.

We have zero cap space for a while. If we get him, it'll have to be in a trade.

I don't see the Jazz having much incentive to do that trade. I can't really see Boston doing it either.

I'd rather get Paul Millsap than Al Jefferson.  I don't think Jefferson would fit the defensive identity this team has crafted.  He's been the poor man's Carlos Boozer and you can see how Boozer does in Chicago as an idea of how Jefferson will probably end up if he returns to Boston.

Id take Big al over boozer every day of the week.... But the Jazz aren't going to be trading a center for anything we have. They don't need bigs like bass and melo in return like mentioned above. They need a stud PG or SG in return. Hayward is solid at small forward but there backcourt is weak

Boozer was top 5 in defensive rating this past season IIRC, is a great post scorer, and a good rebounder.

Just because the ESPN hype machine wants you to think Rose has no help, doesn't mean he actually doesn't.

I love big Al, and wish the best for him, but his lack of speed and defense doesn't fit on our team. I would much rather target Josh Smith.

Big Al couldn't guard Howard's girlfriend, let alone Howard.

The fascination with his decidedly one-dimensional game on this board amazes me.

Al Jefferson is one of the worst defenders in the league. He's a horrible team defender(too slow) and below average man defender(no defensive instinct). Not to mention he's too small to cover Howard. It would be a massacre.

I think Bynum would trash Al, too.

There is no good reason for a team to want Al Jefferson unless it's a middle-of-the-pack team trying to woo fans with fool's gold.

That said, I really like him, but I've always been a sucker for post players since growing up on McHale.  The new defense rules provide a stronger foil to post play, though, as the league has gone to celebrate the wings and guards (hand checking, restricted area, etc.).

I would LOVE to have Al Jefferson here. And for all of you disparaging his defensive skills, he is no longer deficient in that category. He arguably is the best post player in the league right now. He doesn't have to be a superstar here. His current offensive and defensive arsenal is enough to take us over the top. I would think that Green would be getting shipped out in a potential deal like this.

Uh, no.

He's still one of the worst post defenders in the league. He's too slow to play in this system as well.

Al Jefferson's time in Boston is done. As it should be.
