We have a nice collection of young players & bench players.  These are trade chips.  We have a still glaring need to upgrade our 2nd starting big (Bass).  Here are a few trade ideas I've came up with, some more realistic than others.

1. BOS
IN: Varejao
OUT: Bass, Sullinger, Melo

CLE
IN: Cook, Maynor, Sullinger, Melo
OUT: Varejao

OKC
IN: Bass
OUT: Cook, Maynor

2.  BOS
IN: Smith
OUT: Bass, Lee, Sullinger, Melo

ATL
IN: Bass, Lee, Sullinger, Melo
OUT: Smith

3. BOS
IN:Bynum, Trade Exception (3m)
OUT: Green, Bass, Bradley, Sullinger, Melo

CLE
IN: Cook, Bradley, Sullinger
OUT: Varejao

OKC
IN: Bass
OUT: Cook

PHI
IN: Varejao, Green, Melo
OUT: Bynum

Picks can be dispersed as necessary

we're not throwing away half our good players to get an expensive center when we have one of the best centers already in KG.

theyre not going to trade away bynum or varejao, and we dont need them.

Trades (2) and (3) aren't legal trades.  Neither Green nor Lee can be traded until we cross the Dec 15 threshold (or 3 months after the signing - whichever is later).

Neither Sully nor Melo can be traded until 30 days have passed since their signings - not sure of the exact dates.

Finally, trade (1) makes very little sense even once past the latter deadline.   Varejao is a good player, but I don't see Danny giving up that much to get him.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

I was operating on the idea these would be dealine dealine, nothing immediate.  Sully and Melo can already be included in trades though, the time period has elapsed.

Maybe we just deal directly with Cleveland for Varejao, could probably save ourselves Bradley.  Bass is expendable to me.  I could see Clevenland taking him.  Same years, but less money.  They get Sully and Melo with the savings.

Personally, I hoping Rondo puts the bug in Josh's ear to force his way here.  Hopefully Ainge is interested.

If we have a good season, we'll be looking for someone at the deadline.  No idea who...but I'll bet Danny has a list of potentials.  Stand pat for now, see how things turn out....

We could gamble on Greg Oden and offer him the BAE.

Yeah, tons of potential, and if he stays fit (big if) he would be a great fit.  Upside large, same story with downside though

I agree these trades aren't worth giving up our assets but I think we can still sign-trade Green preseason. Bass/Lee would have to be deadline deals of course and I'm not sure that acquiring a proficient big is worth giving up two starting caliber players.

Here are some of my ideas:

  • Oden BAE for 2 years
  • Bass/Melo + 1st for Millsap
  • Green + unprotected 1st for Cousins
  • Okur for the veteran's minimum
  • Pierce (expiring) + 1st for Josh Smith

We will eventually have Sullinger starting here so I'm not comfortable trading him until I see him play a season or two. That makes Bass expendable which is why he's in the trades mostly. If we trade Green we'll have to get a serviceable backup to Pierce. I'm not seeing a lot of names on that list so I'm hoping we keep Green.

The beauty of dealing for Millsap he's on his last year so we're looking at either a resigned big who knows our system or capspace to sign Jefferson/Gibon/West/Ibaka etc. With Bass we have a known quantity for 3 years. With Millsap (or capspace) we can upgrade immediately and possibly next year as well

I'm for Millsap or a FA center like Okur/Oden. Keep Green/Lee and the rookies and let them learn a year or two. Smith is a nice dream but I don't like what we'd have to give up for a UFA next year.

Please. You really think that we signed Garnett for three years just to spend considerable resources in order to bring a pile of spare parts?

You really think Millsap, Okur, or even Cousins will give you anything against Bynum? Or Josh Smith for that matter?

Isn't DMC a beast?

And I don't think they're going to take JG + a first...I'd be all over it, even when factoring in the goodwill we generated with JG.

He's not playing this year though.

don't think they can get smith, it would require trading terry or lee, who they just singed, even if they waited for after dec 15th from a pr point of view from the agents side, unless they were unhappy with playiing time etc.

think they'll wait until mid season once dec 15th rolls by and avery is back to make any moves. I think they could target gortat/pekovic/varejao.

Trading for Millsap then letting his deal expire won't create cap space.

bass, green, and lee were coveted free agents. We were lucky to get them.

Grass is always greener.

Lucky to have sullinger too. This is like discussing avery bradley one year ago. Sullinger is good good, not just good. The only concern should be the back. Hes a smart player with sky high shooting and big man passing and ball handling potential.
