I think they are basically the same type of players. with no offensive skills but are defensive role players.  Ryan Hollins did a good job for the celtics without much practice or training camp. Could Melo have more success with having training camp and practices under his belt?

they are like night and day .... Melo will give you right now more than you will get from Hollins and he still has a lot of upside.

Not the same player at all.

Melo have already much offensive set than Hollins ever had. He had a whooping 56.6 FG% in his last season in college. He is also already a better shot blocker than Hollins. KG would only do wonders for him.

agreed.  Hollins was 6 degrees of useless.  Melo should be a decent player in a couple of years but right now he's still better than Hollins

so Melo should be getting consistent playing time everynight? since he is a better player now than Ryan Hollis?

No, because we have better players in front of him.  Hollins never should've gotten consistent minutes either, we were forced to play him because of injuries.

This is essentially the case. Yes, Melo can do what Hollins coul and maybe more, but this year we have Wilcox and Collins in front of him.  And Bass, Green, and Sullinger will ensure that none of those center options gets minutes at the 4.

Still, it is comforting to know that Melo could play the Hollins role if injuries forced him into it.

Hold your horses. Hollins is an NBA player, albeit not a very good one. Melo has upside, obviously, but he'd get eaten alive if you threw him out there now. Hollins managed to acquit himself from time to time

I'm not going to get my hopes up for this year, but I have really, really high expectations for Fab Melo's future.

Ryan Hollin has already proved he is a marginal NBA player best suited for the third/fourth string emergency center role and unlikely to ever get much better.

Fab Melo hasnt proven he is even a marginal NBA player yet. He could be Michael Olowakandi or Tyson Chandler or ? It will take at least a year to find out.

So far it is all opinion and speculation as to his future.

The good news is, we get him before someone else ruins him.

melo is likely to be noticably better by november, just as he was noticably better at the nba combine.

So exciting. Not quite the chandler jones of basketball, but get ready for surprising impact by new years.

The only advantage Hollins has is his speed. But Fab Melo's combination of size and speed trumps Hollins.

Hollins seemed to put forth a lot of of effort.  One of the questions about Melo is whether or not he will play hard and stay in shape.  The risk is that he turns into one of those guys who squanders the tools to be a very good player.
