  • GOT IT!!!
It seemed to really help KG and keep him much fresher late in games. Now that Pierce has Green/Lee to fill a lot minutes I think it would make sense. Really need the Captain's offense to close out games. Less wear and tear on a older Captain which could help extend his career a season or two.

IDK about the 5-5-5 plan, but Doc definitely needs to cut down pierces minutes next year so that he can be healthy for the playoffs.

having Pierce Injured throughout the playoffs last year really hindered us.

Now that you mention it, that's a great idea.  Pierce really could benefit from the 5-5-5 rotation I think.

This could be great at the 7 minutes mark Green and Wilcox check in and we have a line-up of Rondo-Bradley(Lee)-Green-Bass-Wilcox and we could really change the tempo of games . Exited about this already !

If they're going to get Pierce's minutes way down, I'd prefer he get on the KG/Nowitzki plan than sit down for long stretches.  Pierce never seems to play well after sitting down for 8 minutes or more of game time and losing his rhythm.

He could but Pierce doesn't go as hard as Garnett so it may not be needed.  Just needs to keep his minutes at or below 30 per game.  Jeff Green will be huge for Pierce..

I don't know if it will have the same benefit for Pierce because he is a scorer. A scorer who sometimes takes time to catch fire. And when he is on, you leave him out there. I think his effectiveness would diminish with the 5-5-5 plan.

What made it work so well for KG is that it allows his energy to match his intensity at all times. He can not make a shot (or even take one) and yet still be extremely effective during his 5 minute stint.

Pierce needs to be scoring, in a variety of ways and in rhythm, which is hard to keep when playing for that amount of time.

We'll see though, I'd definitely give it a shot during January/February.

i would love for PP to come off the bench.. he comes in with KG going to the bench... no letdown in offense.

considering AB wont play,

Rondo Lee Green Bass KG will start

then bass sits, PP enters

Rondo lee PP Green KG

then KG sits, enters wilcox

Rondo lee PP Green Wilcox

then lee sits, jet enters

Rondo jet PP green and wilcox

then green and wilcox sits, enter KG and bass/sully

rondo jet pp bass/sully and KG to end the 1st quarter...

 ;)

I would not mind having the captain off the bench.  I feel like he is actually more versatile than Green and could take advantage of some mathchups moving him around positions and Green might benefit from playing almost exclusively at the three.

I expect Pierce's minutes to be similar to KG's. Also the depth gained this off season will allow KG or Pierce to take nights off as the season drags on.

Good point, Pierce does tend to pick his spots to do damage rather than go 100% balls to the walls the entire time he's in.  I think that's part of what makes him so dangerous, he saves his energy a little bit and other teams forget about him and then suddenly he's lighting it up.

Either way, with Green being such a capable back-up 3 I'd love to see Pierce get some good stretches of rest this year.

Pierce is a rhythm shooter.  He can't just come off the bench cold and play at the same level.  He needs to be on the floor for longer than 5 minute stretches.
