I don't have any inside info but I just guess Danny knows this roster (pending Green's signature) is not good enough to get banner #18. I'm not saying it is a useless team but another special chip needs to be added via trade.

For example, what about trying to go for J. SMith from the Hawks in exchange for let's say Bradley, Bass and a first round and a filler.

I know many of you don't like much Josh but it would give the C's the kind of boost on transition game and boards Boston would thank a lot. Plus he's good friends with Rajon and ahould become more reflexive playing alongside KG.

Anyway, after Green inks I think Danny will try to move improve the roster and get closer to the Heat, potentially.

Opinions?

What do we have to trade? Nothing...

Bass cant be traded for what, 60 or 90 days? Any player who has just signed a contract cant be traded til something like December 15th or something, correct me please on this one...

So we could trade Pierce (who isnt going anywhere), Rondo (who isnt going anywhere), or bradley (who probably isnt going anywhere til teams find out if he's healthy) the only tradeable assets we could trade we just did in moore, jjj, williams, and sasha.

Any other trades will have to wait til near the trade deadline.

I'd rather wait thirty games into the season before we talk about trading people.

TP. I feel like thsi team is deep enough to beat the heat if we are healthy and we should wait atleast 30 games before we trade players i mean the guy who made the thread hasnt even seen them play as a group and he already wants trades

I'd like to see what this team does first before we cry for trades.

Bradley and Bass are better for the team than Smith right now. You get about 20 to 25 ppg between them both, solid free throw shooters. Bass is light out at 15 feet, and a solid defender that know the system, and AB is a lock down defender that will handle Wade by him self in stead of having to double team him and leave Lebron to go off. And between them its 12 fouls to 6, that means more aggressive defense.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I don't know I'm pretty happy with our roster. We got younger, deeper, and more athletic. This might end up being be our best team since banner 17, certainly the deepest. What I'm happiest about is Rondo finally has some real athletes with him. Bradley, Lee, Green, and Wilcox are all guys who will thrive with Rondo and vice versa.

i don't know about josh smith, but i wonder if danny would look to trade Avery Bradley at some point, with the guard depth the Cs have.. i hope not because i think he's got a good chance develop into the best of the bunch (other than Rondo)

Last year's team nearly/could've/should've beaten the Heat, and took them to 7 games.  This team has added:

Courtney Lee
Jason Terry
Jeff Green
Jared Sullinger
Chris Wilcox

and has lost an injured Ray Allen (whether or not he will be healthy in the future, he was very injured and we still nearly won) and a likewise injured Greg Stiemsma.

And this assumes that Avery Bradley remains injured all year, and that Paul doesn't get healthier either.

Is this team a mortal lock to win?  Certainly not.  Do they have a real chance?  Absolutely.  They have elite NBA talent at PG, PF/C, and arguably SF, depending on your assessment of Pierce.  Add to that several quality role players, some of whom are capable of taking a game over themselves sometimes, and this team is as deep as any we've had in Boston since the 80's.  I'm looking forward to a repeat of 2010, when we went through almost the entire playoffs without a single players leading the team in scoring in consecutive games.

There's no need that we have that can be filled by a trade without limiting another strength.  Barring a major injury, there won't be a major trade.  And even if there is an injury, I don't see anything more than a minor trade occurring.

I expect a trade as well.

The last time Ainge built up this much depth of good players, he made two huge trades.

I can see this happening again (except just one trade)

Ditto! But not until midseason, or next summer.

I think Danny will use this season to make decisions on who is new core and who is just an asset.

Pierce, Rondo, and KG are core.

Bradley, Green, Lee, and Sullinger are on trial...and on the clock. Danny will be sorting them out this year. All, some, or none might make the grade.

DA already knows what he thinks of Bass, Wilcox, Terry, Dooling and Collins. I think only Terry is core of this group, or would be if he was younger.

Melo is a project. He probably has a two year window. Joesph and Christmas are also "projects", but with a much shorter window to prove themselves.

By mid season DA might be ready to to play "Lets make a deal!"  We'll see.

I agree.

Sure, if the roster Danny has put together proves to be very successful, a trade probably won't happen.  However, I just can not put out of mind mind our glaring weakness at the starting PF position.  Garnett is now our C, for better or worse.

Bass is just not good enough in my opinion.  If we can turn some of our "depth" into a high-level player at the PF spot, I am fully in support of such a move.

Yes, Danny will engage in trade discussions with other teams, especially as the Feb trade deadline approaches.

Why:

(1) The Cs won't be able to improve in the offseason via FAs given how close to the cap the Cs already are.
(2) Danny believes (and I think he's right) that the best way to put a championship team on the floor is to trade for All Star players. They get the benefit of the doubt from the refs in what is basically a rigged system. He's no dummy, he realizes this.

.... that said, I don't get the obsession with Josh Smith. Yes, he is apparently available, but he is not enough of an All Star to really entice Danny. He'd like to pull a trade similar to what he did for KG or RA. The key is to think of players that want to move, who belong to cash strapped teams, who are All Stars or potential All Stars.

Well, I guess Smith is a borderline All Star, so someone to keep on the list. Iggy is another to keep on the list. I think Tyreke Evans, if his health improves, is another. Think Kevin Love. Think Chris Paul.
