  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
They've decimated their stellar bench- which was very deep, very tough and very tall. All this came being very expensive too.
I see they've signed Bellinelli and Nazr Mohammed to short term deals. They've gotten rid of Watson, they're not pursuing Korver (or so I read), they're letting Asik walk to the Rockets(understandable at that price).
With Rose out until perhaps March, are they essentially giving up on the season?
Their starting point guard will most likely be baby Teague and their shooting guard will be the great Marco Bellinelli?....
I'm getting vibes of a possible tank here.
They've gutted the bench, obviously trying to save money while Rose gets healthy, and they've let their key role players walk. I can't see them having a serious run without Korver, Watson, Asik or Rose.
Can anyone say San Antonio?
Do they just let the season go and hope for a lottery pick? or do they fight for a 7th/8th seed hoping that Rose can somehow carry them on one leg (ala KG in 2009)?
All I know is it's great for us this season, considering the Nets and Knicks will each be somewhat tougher than last. Philly and Indy will only get tougher too.
I think our re-tooling will result in a superior team than everyone bar the Heat and time will tell if we have enough depth to finally get past them.

I still think CHI is VERY dangerous.

They have lost a few pieces, but they still have Booz, Deng, Taj and Noah - those four alone, if healthy, will guarantee 500 ball, at least.

Their bench appears to be less than it was, but even with that they STILL have Taj Gibson. They added Nazr..and while he is not as good as Asik, perhaps, he is still a decent big and knows his role.

If Marcus Teague and Bellinelli or whomever else they bring in for guards can pan out, then they will win even more games.

But yeah - Deng-Booz-Noah-Taj, IMO, will get CHI 500 ball, at least. And that is all they need, until Rose comes back.

Even IF he doesn't come back until right before the playoffs, we all know how these "important" players can affect a team upon their return - Bosh played a sizeable part in MIA's win vs us, and Horford almost tipped the scales in ATL's favor vs us, too.

But yeah I wouldn't count CHI out, even now.

Idea is that instead of playing .500 ball they go San Antonio mode. Like when David Robinson was injured. Hit the bottom, hit the lottery, get lucky and pick up another stud in the draft, then move Boozer and go hard at the ship...
They could still put up a fight but without Rose and that solid bench they are nothing close to a threat in the East.

I believe they will tank games this coming season. The effort to win games against evidently superior ones will be less so as to pile up on the losses. They will go after (with crossed fingers) Dwight on or before the trade deadline. The Bulls realize that they have an A1 player in their possession - in the person of Rose. Chicago I think will want to get back into the spotlight once again and the better way to do that is to team Rose with Dwight. Both will obviously share the ball and form a formidable 1-2 punch. They will give up Noah, Deng, Teague and their high first round pick - after they succeed in tanking- and more picks that they could acquire to Orlando for Dwight. Their future line up will feature Rose, Dwight, Boozer, Hinrich, Butler and other vets they could get through free agency and trades. Their current line up will never give them a serious run for the championship.

Of course this is just my own prediction.

If i was in their shoes i'd prefer a lottery pick. But they'll make the playoffs, theyv got too much and a great coach. They dont seem deep enough to get to the finals, but they could suddenly put a run together if rose comes back at 100%.

I'll also say this: if theres anybody happy about the nets not getting dwight, its got to be chicago.

Do we have an update on Deng yet? I thought he was going to need surgery after the Olympics? If he is out an extended period of time, I'd fully expect Boozer to get the amnesty if they still have it available and for Noah to come down with like knee pain or something like that and only play a quarter of the season.

On a related note, can you imagine how good Chicago could be if they won the lottery this year and were able to pick up Muhammad? Assuming they could get rid of Boozer somehow, this would be a team that could beat Miami:

Rose
Muhammad
Deng
Gibson/Mirotic
Noah

The Bulls need to tank. They are in a "Lebron in Cleveland" situation where Rose made them too good too fast that they didn't get a good piece of talent to pair with him.

With Rose not playing til March, this season is wasted in Chicago. And it takes at least two years to recover from a blown knee, so next season is probably wasted also. The Bulls need to amnesty (if they still have it) Boozer, let the season take its dirty course, and hope for the best in the lottery. It's better than winning 38 games, being the 8th seed or just missing the playoffs, and not having anything to show for it.

Chicago has good fans. They'll understand the situation and stick by their team.

The Bulls already had the pieces for a decent team when they drafted Rose.  They went from 49-33 and the conference semifinals to 33-49, 11th in the east, and four games out of the playoffs, and the 9th worst record in the NBA.

The mistake the Bulls made was paying Boozer to be the talent to pair with Rose.
