...according to the Boston Herald.

"Lucky 13

The Celtics now have 13 players under contract for next season, quietly adding guard Jamar Smith two weeks ago. They are trying to add Dionte Christmas to the mix and add another inside player, as well."

If this is true, why has this news not been broken before?

As far as I know neither Kris Joseph, nor Dionte Christmas, nor Keyon Dooling is signed for next season yet, three players I'd much rather see in a C's uniform next year, than Smith.

because it's prob a non-guaranteed contract. he'll be used as a body in training camp, then prob let go after the pre-season. happens every year.

It was broken before, nothing new, don't know why the Herald is making an issue about it right now. But as mentioned above, he's probably a non-guaranteed contract who won't get past training camp/pre-season.

It may have been broken before, but I never saw any posts on Celticsblog or any other celtics sites about it and never saw his name on any depth charts either. I also never saw any analysis of the signing anywhere. Do we even know for sure if the contract is guaranteed for next season or not? As far as I know only 15 players may be under contract at the beginning of the season, does this signing jeopardize Joseph's or Christmas' spot on the roster? (Not to mention Dooling and Peaches.)

This kid can shoot and score but I'd never want him to play a minute for The Celtics. Absolute chucker.

Jamar will get cut before the C's are going overseas. I would be surprised if they brought him overseas.
Jack of all trades, master of none.

But in my estimation, it's the nature of summer league basketball.  Yeah, I thought he chucked it a lot, but it's a guard's game in Orlando and Vegas.  He's proven he can make them, and I don't think he'd play like that come real basketball for one reason: he won't be allowed to do that both from the coaching staff and the players.  The one think I like about him is that he can handle it and shoot it.  Even if he makes the team he's probably not much more than a human victory cigar...
