  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
The Mavericks are adding Larry Bird, who will largely be a mentor / figurehead and will allow Frank Vogel to run the team.

I call shinanigans. It's wdleehi's call, but I think you gotta pick one. It's pick a coach round, not pick two coaches and pretend you're picking one coach round.

People keep allowing IP to correct his mistakes:

Quote
Bulls send: Jeremy Lin, Kenneth Faried
Cavs send: Jrue Holiday, Thad Young

Faried is a significant loss, but Jeremy Lin averaged around 8 assists and 5 turnovers per game as a starter, while shooting a fairly pedestrian 44% from the field.  That's not a guy you can build around.

Holiday had a bad year, but he's at least a pretty good defender, and has more upside.

We've always been allowed to pick coaches and then fill out staff.  We're the last pick of the round.  Bird is our coach, Vogel's his head assistant.

I'll give more thoughts on the trade later when I'm at an actual computer, but I really didn't want to make this trade. I think that Lin in a vacuum is the better player, and obviously Faried is a much better player and prospect than Holiday. I wanted a straight up Lin/Holiday switch, but Yoki wouldn't budge and got this.

I think I made my team better, but I also know I gave up the lions share of the transaction.

Meh, I'd say I disagree. I think IP lost out on this trade significantly

I'm not sure that Curry was a mistake, but I'm happy with how things worked out.

You're right. I'd barely opened my eyes and saw that somehow Frank Vogel didn't get picked. I assumed you were picking in the middle of the round.

Yeah.  We needed Larry on our team, but the former "Coach Of The Year"'s biggest accomplishment was hiring smart assistants.

I'm curious how high other people are on Lin.

Anybody who puts up 38 points in a game has some talent (well, other than Todd Day), but the way he closed out the year didn't impress me, he's way too turnover prone, and I was pretty disappointed to see him decide to sit out playoff games because he was "85%".

DisappoInting because my team got better or because you feel the trade was unbalanced? Because, if you think the trade was vastly unbalanced, I'd request an explanation, as I really disagree.

The kid has the package to be a starting point guard on a championship team for sure.  I'm just really scared by his inability to go to his left hand and/or drive left.  At this point in your life, if you haven't developed an nba-ready left hand as a point guard, is that something you can square away in 1 summer?
