I think that "McHale doing us another solid" was like the third thing that came to mind once I heard the news.

I think his relationship with Morey played a bigger role.  I doubt McHale was involved with this, but Morey was probably helping out his old boss a bit here.

Probably, and Doc's relationship with Lee also did a lot for this move. Seriously, Lee went for the lesser role/less money instead of the bigger role/more money he would have had with Minnesota. Doc's meeting with Lee definitely had something to do with this.
