Delfino would be a great fit here.  I'd prefer him to Pietrus given his atrocious playoff shooting.  He'd make a great BAE candidate if he'd take it.

Both Delfino and Peaches played 2s better than 3s last season according to 82games, and the lineups seem to show them bein the logical guy to guard the 2 guards (82 games can be funny like that sometimes).

If Peaches costs, Delfino is a great second option.

He can't shoot and looks like a woman.  No thank you based on the can't shoot part.  40% field goal percentage is horrible.

Field goal % isn't a good measure for him, or really anyone. TS% is better, and by that measure he's better off than peaches or OJ Mayo.

What do people want for those pennies we are offering, MJ? If we land any one of those guys they will probably see the floor as much as Dooling did last season (which was little) now with JET on board (even less, if/when AB is ready to go)!

Yeah, when I really think about it, and maybe I'm going out on a thin limb here, the fact that the bigs are the ones getting overpaid these days more than likely means there's less money to go around for the smaller fellas. As in, everything else being equal, I bet Delfino could demand a good $3-4M, which actually wouldn't be a big deal considering he apparently made $3.5M last year, but he'd probably be outta our price range as a result.

So, as far as I see it, even though Delfino is 2nd fiddle to a Lee or Mayo, if we could infact get him for the BAE or less, I'd say lucky us, all things considered.

At the end of the day, though, I am encouraged that the Celtics are preparing to move on from Lee, and not stay tied up in whatever the Rockets decide to do concerning Howard. There's not as much time before training camp as people think, you know.

Not really.  Delfino's career TS percentage is definitively worse than Mayo or Pietrus': 51.5 versus 53 and 54.2.  All three have put up poor percentages in their recent seasons with Delfino the best of the three but his advantage is slight and insignificant.

Even though Delfino's never had a TS% that was average or better, it's possible he could be much more efficient with the Celtics because his role will be different.  His usage rate will come down from the 20s where it's been and maybe that'll cause him to primarily be a three point shooter where he's consistently been above average.  After seasons of role players with no deep range, I shouldn't complain.

Another thing about Delfino, he's been a net positive for most of his career, a slight net positive but still.  That's a good sign for a role player.

Yep and even if one team offered him 2.5m we couldn't even begin to match it. Whoever we get, they are probably choosing to take less money than their worth or they are the bottom of the barrel better than nothing type.

Erm, technically I don't think there is a "final" date to that, just the one in March where you have to sign a player before that date for them to be playoff eligible.

I think I would rather have Pietrus for his ability to slide over and defend Lebron. Not excited about Delfino but I guess he is better then Pavlovic. Would still prefer Pietrus if healthy. He is familiar with the system, the team, and has built up a chemistry with the core guys.

I'd be fine with Delfino, and I'm sure other names will make the rounds on twitter with Boston as a landing spot--Redd, Delonte, Belinelli, Randy Foye, John Lucas...but it will probably end up being Peaches and Dooling again, right?

Great post. Spot on assumption, and let's take a step back for a minute...

why wouldn't we be happy giving Pietrus and Dooling the BAE and the min? Pietrus is best case scenario for a defender (2-3, and Lebron, which is our main concern here, guys...), can spot start for AB, and history indicates he will give a lot more offensively next year. And honestly, we don't even need it - think we're forgetting we have jet and green giving us big bench mins this year as well. And Dooling gave us great defense, tons of energy, was great for Rondo, and hit some enormous shots in the playoffs. He's always going to show up and perform and he's an awesome back up PG for Rondo at the min. Both have chemistry with the team, bought in on defense, and are familiar with the system.

If healthy, I agree that Peaches should supplant at the 2 for now while AB recovers. The guy should impove post surgery, unless his surgery also takes time to heal and he won't be ready by camp.

why can't we have both guys, Delfino and Peaches? we need every bit of depth we can get, guys WILL get hurt

I wouldnt complain if one took the BAE and one signed for the vet min... I dont see both of those things happening though haha

I can't help but get excited every time the Celts come up as a possible destination for an athletic 3 pt shooting wing, but whenever I stop and think I come to the same conclusion- Peaches and Dooling are our best options.  They are EXACTLY what we need at this point- a back-up PG willing to get very limited court time when everyone's healthy (the Jet will be our main back-up PG when AB is healthy) but still can contribute when necessary, and a back-up SG with length who can defend 2s and 3s (and, yes, Lebron) and make some open jumpers.  The 2 contracts we have (min and BAE) will not net us anywhere near that much value if we look elsewhere.
