Is anyone watching the game with POR - NO?

I know it's just Summer League, but Meyers Leonard is a STUD.

I love our rooks Jared, Fab and Joseph, but THIS guy is all over the place.

Moves well, cuts to the basket, runs the floor, plays defense - not only shot-blocking (has 3 this game), but plays good POSITION defense. Has a post-up game, goes to the basket HARD, dunks with authority.

They are going to LOVE this guy in Portland. Continue to work hard, young fella.

I really thought NO should have paired him with Davis instead of drafting Rivers.

Pretty impressive debut by Leonard.  I was very impressed by how big he played in rebounding the ball and protecting the basket.  He also wasn't shy about throwing his newfound muscles around with a bit of nastiness.

The caveat is that New Orleans isn't exactly one of the best Summer League squads.  The bigs he went up against aren't very good and the guys he stymied at the rim like Henry and Rivers aren't the most explosive of athletes.  Still, I love bigs who provide the defensive things they have to provide.  He drew some Tyson Chandler comparisons before the draft and with his shot selection (basically dunks around the rim), rebounding and rim protection, he was Chandleresque.

Not a player I liked going in to the draft. So I'm going to be real stingy about it, and respond, "Miles Plumlee, Orlando Summer League First Team."

But I didn't even see the game.

Good points, but from what I saw of Meyers, his potential seems a bit higher than Tyson - as long as he works hard.

LaMarcus just got some frontcourt help, I think.

Would have been a stretch, given that he went at #12, but I would have liked to see Danny trade his two 1sts in order to get up there and pick him.

how about denzel bowles of the hornets?  19 minutes, 18 points on 8/12 shooting and 12 boards (8 offensive)..pretty good game.

and this young man has heart.  Just recently, he played here in the Philippines as an import reinforcement.  He was adjudged the best import of the conference.  He led his team to the finals and in game 7 of the finals, he was sent to the line with 1.2 seconds remaining with his team down by 2.  Pressure-packed free throws?  In front of a jam-packed Araneta Coliseum with thousands of screaming fans, he made both.  He did not choke... and he led his team to the title in overtime.

check the link of the free throws:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGs2RA_6-Wk&feature=related

with the right opportunity, i think he can make it.. a man with skills, a man with heart.

Yawn.... it's Summer League and performances don't mean jack.  I agree he has some talent but let's not set aside a place in Springfield just yet.

Leonard was drawing raves back at the NBA Combine for his transformed physique and maturity.

He's also got nice touch on his jumper.

Quote
Meyers Leonard’s workouts have been generating plenty of buzz in NBA circles with his skilled play and physical measurements. Has an NBA big man build with those broad shoulders that should be able to pack on pounds and was the tallest measured prospect at 7’1”. Little to our surprise (been 14 on our board for a few months now), his stock appears to be soaring and could ultimately end up landing him in the late lottery.

Take it from an ILLINI fan.  He's a stud athlete.  I have seen him play numerous times and he has size, speed, strength and quickness.  Plus a frame to add weight.  The sky is the limit for him.  But to call him mature is a HUGE stretch.

That was considered his biggest weakness at Illinois.  He took some plays off and when he didn't get the ball he complained (BTW the ILLINI did a poor job of getting him the ball).  Plus he argued with the refs on calls.  Not real mature.  But when you look at him consider just 2 years ago he was playing against 6'2 centers (if that in high school).  His hoemtown has a population of a couple hundred people.

  • Ashy To Classy, baby.
Yeah, dude looks gooood. Usually tall white centers are goofy and unstable, but he just knows how to move.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.
