Lee or Mayo ?

I prefer Mayo because he is better at creating his own shot. In the past he has shown that he can be close to a  20 point per game scorer, having someone like that would help a lot in moving to the next generation of players.

Danny has clearly been after Mayo for a while now. I think he probably views Mayo as part of the core team moving forward with Rondo and Green...

If this is Danny's thinking then long term Mayo is probably the better fit...although Im still no convinced Mayo really loves playing which is a trait that has worked well for the Cs.

for the next two seasons, I think Lee would be better. He fits the vibe of the team better and I think he would not have a problem playing off of other players. Also he knocks down 3s at a very high rate which we know works well in out system.

So adding that all up, I'd prefer Lee because I think we are on the verge of being able to beat Miami and there is nothing sportswise that I want to see happen more.

Lee would help that goal more IMO.

Mayo easily. I think we're looking for a starter while Bradley's out and Lee isn't starter. Mayo showed a lot of promise in his first two seasons before being banished to the bench in years 3 and 4. I think playing in a jump shooter friendly system like Doc's as well as playing with Rondo would help him start living up to his potential. If people can get behind Jeff Green I don't see why they can't get behind Mayo. He showed just as much if not more in the past then Green has.

I was checking out Mayo's basketball-reference page and it stuck out to me that Mayo has never had a season in which his Offensive rating was higher than his Defensive Rating.  I'm not a mathhead to explore the nitty gritties of that but I've perused enough basketball-reference pages to know that that's one hallmark of a good or better player.  Even if they're on bad teams, their quality still shows up in that way.  It's pretty [dang]ing that Mayo's had a negative ratio even though Memphis has been good the past two years.  He's been mostly a negative player for his career.

I don't consider Mayo a future huge building block so if it's between Lee and Mayo, I like Lee better because for the next two years, they need high quality role players and Lee fulfills that better than Mayo.  If the Celtics try to build around Rondo after KG and PP retire by giving him Mayo and Green on the wings, wow, they're be awful.

On an unrelated note, Carmelo Anthony's Offensive and Defensive ratings are equal after eight seasons.  You just don't see that from guys who are considered elite or franchise guys.

Bradley is just too much of an unsure thing at this point. People are too confident in Avery at this point he is an already undersized guard with two surgically-repaired shoulders. Let's not put all our hopes on Bradley just yet..

Lee IS a better shooter than Mayo. Look at the numbers, people.

Lee: 43.3% FG, 40.1% 3-point, 82.6% FT, 53.4% TS
Mayo: 40.8% FG, 36.4$ 3-point, 77.3% FT, 51.3% TS

In fact, Mayo is not a very good shooter, and Lee is an above average shooter.

Lee is also a better defender.

Mayo's advantage is that he is a better rebounder and passer.

To be fair, 36% from behind the three-point line is actually pretty decent, and definitely above average (around 33%, I believe); the other shooting stats are mediocre though.

And Lee is the better defender, and will probably be more accepting of the kind of role he'll get here. I vote Lee.

P.S. Doubt Mayo would sign for the MLE, even if that's what he's worth.

I love Bradley but that's true and what sucks most about it is I don't feel good about landing either of these guys

But, the part about "while Bradley's out" implies we're looking for a temporary starter, doesn't it?  I mean, what's supposed to happen when Bradley comes back?

It's just a bad fit.  Mayo's ego is a problem.  He thinks he's better than he is, and he thinks he's a point guard.  He doesn't always play hard.

Jeff Green seems like a humble, hard-working young man.  His production hasn't justified the contract he's apparently been given, but the big contract is hardly his fault.  What's he going to say, "no"?

Also, Paul Pierce is, like, 61 years old.  We're hoping Green is the SF of the future.  We're not looking for a guard of the future.  Rondo is still young, and he and Bradley are the backcourt of the future.

I also think it's all moot, because I think some team (Phoenix?) will offer Mayo more than the MLE.  I don't think we  have any chance of getting him, even if we wanted him.

If I'm wrong, and we can get him, and we do get him, of course I'll get behind him and root for him.  But I just think Courtney Lee would work out better for what this team needs and how this team works.

I think you've crystallized why my answer is Lee.  Because I'm saying the opposite: yes, let's put all our starting 2-guard hopes on Bradley, now.

You are right to be concerned, but the team has to be managed.  Bringing in someone to take Bradley's job is not going to make the team any more harmonious.  The fact that the guy really wants to have Rondo's job makes things worse.

If Bradley bombs this season, then Mayo will have been the better choice.  But I'm not counting on him bombing this season.

Mayo played the same minutes per game (actually a small amount more), so this isn't really a fair statement.  Mayo played 26.8 minutes, Tony Allen 26.3.

We just signed a guy who was DeShawn Stevenson's backup in 2010-2011 and we are all pretty excited about it.  I'd love for us to have Danny Green's backup.

And Tony isn't a bum anyway.  He is the starting 2-guard for the NBA All-Defensive 1st Team.  So all you are really saying is that he shared minutes with the best defensive player in the league at his position.  Big deal.
