Is it me but the Celtics haven't tried do land a big time free agent?  The Laker, Heat, Knicks and Nets have signed big time free agents, you can throw in the Rockets as trying, why arent we?  Lakers add Nash and now trying for Howard.  Knicks mayne not big free agents but Kidd and Camby.  Nets seem to be signing everyone, Heat add Lewis and Ray.  All we have done was sign our own?  I thought before we signed all our players we could go after someone??  I know there isnt't alot of big names this year, but with the contracts we handed out, we won't have money next year either? Explain please?!

We signed Jason Terry, which is a pretty big addition.  We're talking to Courtney Lee and possibly O.J. Mayo.

We didn't have the pieces to land Nash, plus we already have a PG that some folks might say is pretty okay.  We don't have the chips for Dwight Howard, and he wouldn't re-sign here.

Danny had a choice:  he could try to sign outside free agents with around $22 million in cap space, or he could bring back our own guys plus add Terry with about $38 million to work with.  He chose option B.

We also signed Kevin Garnett.

And I'd add, what exactly would you have liked us to do?

As Roy said, we don't have the players to get Howard.  Nash is redundant with Rondo (not to mention that the Lakers gave him a 3 year deal at 38 years old).  The Knicks also signed two guys (Camby and Kidd) who make KG look young (Camby is 38 and Kidd is 39).

I think you could question what Danny is doing if there were a plethora of great, franchise changing players out there, but there aren't.  He's keeping the team as competitive as possible right now, while maintaining as many assets as possible.

For the next two yeas the C's should stay competitive and the young guys should grow.  After two years, DA will have the option to continue the status quo or look to start dealing or signing players as Pierce and Rondo come off the books and KG and Bass go into their final years.

Understand the frustration, but you need to understand what the CBA is setup to do. Basically as said above, it prevents real flexibility.

Don't forget that we signed Bass and Jeff Green also. But I guess that counts as our own players. Still I would say that Green and Terry don't count because they were not on the court for 1 second last season as a Celtic.

Green + Terry > Ray

Heck Terry > Ray

Also we added the two first round picks and Sullinger looks like he can consistently crack the rotation this year.

Danny has done a fair job of bringing back enough guys to make a run while bringing a few new guys for the future build up.....really did a nice job balancing both goals.

Sully , Melo, Joseph, Green, AB and Moore is a decent young crew to develop.   Rondo and Bass are still young as well.

One day PP, KG , Jet can be shed for alot of cap space to get one or two new superstars .

In the mean time I suggest everyone relax enjoy watching KG and PP work their magic another year.

Danny went to go sign the best free agents for the Celtics, and then realized that most of them were already on the team.

TP for that.

Besides, if we do land an OJ Mayo or Courtney Lee in addition to Jason Terry and our own core that was 1 game short of the Finals, I'd say we've done an excellent job with limited choices.
