Despite the stinging loss of Ray Allen, our Celtics' squad looks to be shaping out well. We've signed our three rookies, brought aboard Jason Terry (+1 Danny), and now seem to have retained arguably our two most important free agents in Brandon Bass and Jeff Green. While I still think it's crucial to snag a couple of possibly returning big men (two out of the three preferably, in this order: Steamer, Wilcox, Nenad), I agree with Danny's sentiment that another guard is needed. I'm pretty high on E'Twaun Moore but for a team that is looking to push forward in contention with depth rather than concentrated starpower like Miami, it'd be nice to have as many proven options in the second string, and a returning second round guard does not exactly fit that bill. Don't get me wrong, I think the kid is promising, but I wouldn't be convinced the Celtics are contenders if they can't get a solid backup shooting guard.

Mickael Pietrus would be nice to bring back and I think, especially with his professed interest in "retiring a Celtic" we can certainly do that with this year's biannual exception.

What about Gerald Green though? Could we snag him with the BAE? He had a very intriguing year in NJ last year and I think we could offer him valuable burn behind Avery Bradley and Paul Pierce (during stints in which we go small and Jeff Green plays the 4). This would allow E'Twaun to slowly grow into a backup role (perhaps a few stints as the third string point guard and maybe some burn at SG in three-guard sets) while also giving us another athletic wing to throw at the reloaded Heat.

To me, by midseason, I'd be thrilled if our lineup looked like this:

PG: Rondo/Terry/Moore
SG: Bradley/G Green/Moore
SF: Pierce/J Green/G Green/Joseph
PF: Sullinger/Bass/JJJ/Wilcox
C: Garnett/Stiemsma/Wilcox/Melo

Garnett would play exceptionally alongside a guy like Sullinger and I think Bass would be utilized better alongside guys with more athleticism like Gerald Green and Jeff Green. There's potential for a prolific pick-and-roll combo with Terry and Bass as well.

Thoughts?

Personally I'd love to bring Green back. I liked the kid and I think people gave up on him too soon (though understandably since he sucked). He's still young and has some talent in him. I think a team with good veteran presence and structure will do him good.

For cheap money I'd do it. Really would like to see the kid succeed.

I don't know that people gave up him too soon... I would have too if it meant Kevin Garnett in return, given the way he was playing at the time.

But yeah, he's only 26 and played well for the Nets last year as a reserve. If nothing else, he's worth taking a flyer on.

He's going to be overpaid for his athleticism, which is an overpriced commodity in the league today.

I heard that he wants to play again in Boston. If that is true, then BAE or even a vet min would be enough for him to be signed here.

I know I don't post on here much but that idea has been in my signature since I signed up. If we picked him up I might have to change it, though.

Can't we just bring Gerald Green back?

I'm for this.  Danny said he wants another SG and he's within the money range. He had an impressive return last year.  Give him a shot.

I'd only do it if they played him with Jeff Green and gave him the Green Light!

Nothing to do with Garnett, I didn't give it a second thought if it meant getting Garnett. I meant as a whole in him making it in the NBA.

He was what? 20-21 years old back then, and we wrote him off for his whole career? Well, I thought it a bit premature for someone of his talents (and a bit of his skills), when it was evident what he needed was a bit more discipline in playing the game, and I think that comes with time.

I don't think he'll ever meet expectations, but I think he could become a serviceable guy in the NBA at the very least, and he's made some good strides I think.
