Actually, because we waived O'Neal I don't believe we can S&T him.

Also, we don't own his bird rights since he was only here for two years not three. Also the new CBA mandates all S&T contracts be 3 years minimum with limited 4.5 % raises. The old S&T just ain't what she used to be.

We could have gotten around those two easy enough, I think.  While S&Ts have to be 3 years, the last 2 years can be non-guaranteed.  Also, we would have had JO's "Early Bird" rights, meaning we could have given him up to a 175% raise.

Alas, we have Sean Williams instead.

I think Sean Williams partially guaranteed contract can be just as useful in a S&T that involves Dooling.  If someone wants Dooling as a backup guard, and wants to give a little over the vet min without using an exception, Williams can be added to the trade to add over a million dollars in salary to the S&T player we'd be getting in return.
